Favorite Interior Design Books

Hi Friends!  Sorry I have been absent lately.  The hecticness of life has just taken over.  I am hoping to post a bit more frequently in the coming months.  I have a holiday home tour I am working on behind the scenes, so stay tuned for a holiday home tour!  I the meantime, I thought I would post a roundup of my favorite interior design books.  These make wonderful coffee table books or gifts for the design lover in your life.

First up is new book published this  year by blogger turned interior designer Paloma Contreras.  She is seriously my design girl crush.  She demonstrates that it is possible to quit your day job and pursue your passion.  Paloma used to be a high school Spanish teacher!  Her new book Dream, Design , Live is chalk full of inspiration and practical advice.

Who does not love black and white as a classic combination?

The king of blue and white Mark D. Sikes.

This book is just so lovely and also gives very interesting detail on Aerin and her relationship with Estee

Interior designer and blogger Erin Gates first book is a must have.

This beautiful and elegant book is on my coffee table right now!

This book is photographed in vignettes all over Pinterest.

The first book by the editors of Domino magazine is part eye candy and part practical advice.  It is a must read.

These are a few of my favorites.  Any you have on your list?  Luckily, new design books come out all the time.  Hello Amazon wish list.

Have a great week and safe travels if you are traveling for Thanksgiving.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s New Collection for CB2

Hi friends.  Happy Monday.  I was just looking at the CB2 catalog over the weekend and apparently now Gwyneth, the actress, singer, lifestyle guru can add decorator to her repertoire.  Her popular lifestyle brand Goop now has a collection for CB2.

It had me at peacock.  I love peacocks!

The lines are a bit modern for me and some of the designs a bit impractical for living with kids, but it is all unique and feminine.  Here are a few of my favorites.

The line of accessories is very beautiful and curated.

What do you think?  Perfectly chic or too modern?  Or do you love it just because Gwyneth can do no wrong??

Until next time . . .

Designer Spotlight: Sarah Bartholomew

Hi friends!  Boy are you in for a treat with this designer spotlight.  I have followed Sarah Bartholomew for years after I saw her home in a Better Homes & Gardens spread.  And then just the other day, I was looking at the Pottery Barn catalog and I saw that Sarah Bartholomew has curated a new collection for PB.

Here are some examples of her work,  It is classic and traditional style with modern twists added in.  For example, below the console, lantern, pottery and chairs are pretty traditional, but the fun and bold batik patter wallpaper makes it all so modern and fresh.

Sarah really has the blue, white and green combo down pat.  The feminine pattern and details on this sofa are perfection!

I love the repeat of the pattern on the headboard, drapes and pillows.

I would do laundry in this room all day!

The wood paneling in this room might feel heavy without all of the crisp blue and green surrounding it.

I would be a guest in this beautiful guest room any time.

Here are a few items I am loving from Sarah’s collection at Pottery Barn.

I am seeing a big trend in wicker and canning lately.  I recently re-canned a chair, so I am feeling quite on trend.

Hope you are having a lovely week!

Designer Spotlight: Mary McDonald

Hi friends.  I hope you are all having a wonderful summer.  Things have been a little crazy over here trying to keep the kids busy and working.  I am sure the struggle is real for a lot of you out there.

Well, as I was online “stress” shopping the other day, I came across the most beautiful lamp at Bellacor.   It was one of their “Open Box” sales.  I posted here about my new obsession with finding Open Box deals.  In summary, Open Box deals are where someone purchases a products, opens the box and then returns it.  Then the retailer resells it again at a significantly reduced cost.  It is a great way to get the look for less and I have been very successful finding needles in the haystack on sites such as Bellacor.

The lamp I purchased was from a line Mary McDonald did for Robert Abbey.  Isn’t it just gorgeous??  I got an amazing deal on it.

Here is the lamp styled in an office.

I was so in love with the lamp, I wanted to know more about its designer, Mary McDonald.  Here are some amazing rooms from her portfolio.  Her style is so chic and glamorous.

There is a peek at the lamp in a different color in the next two phots.

Have you found any new inspiring designer portfolios lately?  Please share with us in the comments.   I swear my idea of a perfect Sunday would be breakfast in bed followed by perusing designer portfolios.  Alas, my Saturday and Sunday mornings are usually filled with carting kids to sporting events!

Until next time . . .

Designer Spotlight: Lindsey Coral Harper

Hi friends!  I was looking through an article of House Beautiful the other day and was so impressed by the portfolio of designer Lindsey Coral Harper.  Her bold use of color and traditional with a twist style had me wanting to see more. See some of her inspiring work below.

The very traditional dining room is offset by a modern and whimsical chandelier.

I love the color combination of blue and coral.  Such a lovely paring.  I also love the extended use of the pattern on the drapes and bed skirt.

Wow purple is a bold color choice, but it certainly works here.  Since everything is the same hue it appears so saturated.

A traditional sitting room with a modern and glamorous mirror.

Oh la la lacquer.  I love the floor to ceiling shine that envelopes this hallway. The moulding isn’t bad either!

I could sit an read all day in this jewel-toned library.

If you like to stick to neutrals, Lindsey Coral Harper sure shows you what you are missing!

Until next time.

Miles Redd for Ballard Designs

Hi everyone!  While my last post was about calming neutrals, I am switching up gears and discussing pure glamour. Famed interior designer Miles Redd has partnered with Ballard Designs to produce a line of amazingly glamourous furniture and accessories with a distinct Hollywood Regency look.  I mean he did write a book called “The Big Book of Chic” after all.  Miles does bright, colorful, unexpected designs and no one room he does is alike.  One look at these photos and I want to ditch neutrals.  The paring of colors, patterns and textures is too much fun.

Here the white mirror, console and chair balances out the wild Chinoiserie wallpaper.  I love the shell console.  I used to collect shells growing up, so anything with a shell motif is nostalgic for me.

The glam factor is notched up a bit here.  The bold use of pops of green, the edgy coffee table and leopard print all work together beautifully.

Most of the funiture can be customized in any one of Ballard’s amazing fabrics, like the blue spot fabric below.

I adore this Hollywood Regency-style mirror paired with this lacquered black chest.  The possibilities for using this mirror are endless.

Pattern in the bedroom anyone?

The shape of this waterfall console and its matching bench is so unique and is a definite centerpiece.

I am afraid I would never eat again if I had this black lacquered dining table.  I find the design of the table legs to be particularly beautiful.

Here are a few of my favorite individual pieces from the 28-piece collection.

Console

Urn

Lacquered Riser

Mirror

Waterfall Console

The pieces are not terribly priced which makes a high-end designer look affordable to more people. I am considering getting the black lacquered riser featured above to use on my coffee table or in a multitude of spaces in my home.

Have you ever purchased from Ballard Designs?  It truly is catalog decorating at its best!

Favorites from the One Room Challenge

Hi friends!  Hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.  I can’t believe it is already Wednesday.  Finally, I have my top 5 picks of the designers featured in the One Room Challenge.  I think the reason this post took me forever to do is that I would go onto these designer’s blogs and get sucked in my all of the beautiful spaces on their sites. The creativity is endless.

First up, is Kristin at the Hunted Interior’s serene master bedroom.  The blue tones of the room are so soothing and there is enough pattern and texture to keep it sophisticated and interesting.  And don’t forget the chandelier!!

ORC Favorite 2

Next up is a room that is the complete opposite by the Pink Clutch.  It is saturated with color and vintage accessories at every turn.  If you have been reading this blog for a while, you know that I adore Chinoiserie and this room feeds my fix.

ORC Favorite 5

Next, is a simple room, but it makes quite a statement with bold wallpaper.  I don’t know about you, but I could get lost (and actually, maybe enjoy) doing laundry in this space by The Zhush.

ORC Favorite 3

I love the modern and feminine space created by Megan at Honey We’re Home.  The color palette is so fresh and soft.

ORC Favorite

Last but not least, is this dream bathroom by the Simplified Bee.  The mosaic marble floors- swoon!

ORC Favorite 4

So there you have it.  Head on over to Calling it Home to check out all the designer’s reveals.

Ken Fulk for Pottery Barn

Ken Faulk Pottery Barn

Pottery Barn

Lately, when I get the Pottery Barn catalog, if feel like it is always the same old stuff.  To me the decor has gotten tired, stale and predictable.  However, the other day, I was perusing their site and saw that they have collaborated with über chic San Francisco designer Ken Fulk.  The collection is classic, yet bold and whimsical.  It is just the jolt of fun and style that I think Pottery Barn needs.

Here are some of my favorites from the collection.

OB-Ken Fulk

Bar cart / Mirror / Chandelier / Lacquer boxes / Chair / Dresser

What do you think of the new collection?  I think it definitely steps up Pottery Barn’s design game.

Lilly Pulitzer For Target

Lilly Pulitzer for Target

Hello Decorating Delirium readers!  I though I would pop in this morning for a little public service announcement.  In case you didn’t know, one week from today on April 19th, Lilly Pulitzer’s 250 piece line will debut at Target stores and online.  The line features women, children and home accents.  The even better news is that 200 of the pieces are under $30.

I had actually never heard the story behind Lilly Pulitzer before.  Lilly was a socialite whose husband owned many citrus groves in Palm Beach.  Bored of sitting around their mansion, she decided to open up a juice stand on posh Worth Avenue.  In order to cover up the juice stains she encountered, she made several dresses out of a busy floral print to hide the stains.  Catching the eye of passers-by, including Jackie Kennedy, she began selling the dresses at her stand.  The rest is history!

Here are my favorite picks from the women’s line.

OB-Lilly Pulitzer for Target

Here are my favorites from the kids line.  I can just imagine my two little ones dressed in matching outfits!  I simply can’t decide which one is my favorite!

OB-Lilly Pulitzer for Target Kids

Last but not least, here are my picks for home decor.

OB-Lilly Pulitzer for Target Decor

The lounge chair and pom pom napkins are high on my list!

If you want to get your preppy on, I would recommend running, not walking to your local Target store on April 19th!

Do you have a favorite piece from the collection?  You can see the entire lookbook of the collection here.

Have a great Sunday!
