Best Interior Design Sales: Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Hi Friends!  Happy Thanksgiving.  Here in Northern California we have been devastated by wildfires that have caused loss of life and homes.  What I am thankful for today is my family and having a home to be cozy in and cook in.  I as well as many others are very thankful for the rain we just received that has helped clear the smoke out of our air.

That being said, I am also very thankful for the amazing sales going on right now for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  Here are a few of my favorite sales.

Serena and Lily:  Take 20 percent off of everything with code: GATHER

Speaking of sales, I was just reading an article discussing the psychology behind email marketing campaigns and it is fascinating. These days we are bombarded with emails from companies advertising the benefits of their product and their sales.  I don’t sell products on my site, but have often thought about it, so this topic is of interest.  One strategy marketers use is called the “sunk cost effect.”  The theory is that since we have already spent time, energy or money on something, we become determined to make it work.  We have all seen those message at the bottom of an email suggesting other items we may want to complete the set or that compliment what we have purchased.

Another example is with respect to subscription-based services where you are already committed to spend a sum of money.  The article I read highlights that retailer Dollar Shave Club has done this brilliantly with their “toss more in” email campaign.  So when they present this message allowing them to “toss more in,” it can dramatically increase average order value. It does this by reminding folks they’ve already ordered and highlighting how small the extra sum required would be to “complete the set,” which plays on our inherent desire to complete collections.

Another strategy highlighted by Emma, an email marketing service, suggests creating a VIP program or widening your existing program.  Programs can be widened by asking existing VIP’s to share invitations and offers to friends.  It is called the “entourage effect” and Emma explains it as:

“In life, being a VIP is all about social recognition, right? So if no one in your social circle can participate in your VIP status, it won’t actually mean that much to you. Here’s the deal…

VIPs don’t want to be lonely.  They want public visibility of their social position.  They want to be able to share their resources with others.  They want to create a feeling of indebtedness

That’s why widening VIP treatment doesn’t dilute its value – it amplifies it. If a brand wants to make a VIP feel really special, it should adapt its existing program to let his or her peers get in on the action.”

So much psychology behind the marketing emails we receive.  I may have been bombarded with so many emails I missed some sales.  If you have others you are shopping, share away in the comments.

Mixing High and Low Using Vintage Designer Furniture

One of my favorite decorating tips for decorating on a budget is mixing high and low decor.  Pulling in older, vintage pieces definitely helps give a space a collected look.  Luckily, for  everyday design enthusiasts, there are now abundant sources for sourcing such vintage treasures and one-of-a-kind antiques.  Now everyone has access to pre-owned vintage and designer furniture that is curated.  No more searching high and low through estate sales or on Craigslist for rare finds.

Here are a few items I found when searching for designer items at a fair price.  I have been having a major love affair with burl wood the last few years.  This dresser foots the bill.  The wood has so much depth and character.   Viyet- French Louis Philippe Fall Front Burl Secretary

If you have been reading the blog for a while, you know my deep obsession with all things Chinoserie.  These framed Chinoserie wallpaper panels had me at “hello.”  If you can’t afford custom Chinoserie wallpaper from floor to ceiling, framed panels are the way to go.  It has the same effect without the hit to your budget.  https://www.onekingslane.com/p/4774042-henredon-faux-bamboo-mirrors-pair.do

This antique Oushak rug would be amazing in a feminine space.  This would be beyond chic in a little bagy girl nursery.

These Chinese Chippendale mirrors are close to my heart.  I have a set in a different color.  Although seeing them in glossy black is marking me want to switch things up.  These retail for a pretty penny.  I don’t want to brag, but mine came from an estate sale where they just threw them in with a dresser I purchased.

This coffee table makes more than a statement.  You can’t find this in any design/decor catalog.  I am a huge lover of brass and glass.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that bar carts have been hugely popular in the last few years.  Almost any home decor retailer sells them.  So, why not make a statement with yours and go with a vintage faux bamboo bar cart?   I promise your next party will be better for it.

Having easy access to online marketplaces has saved me so much time in my hunt for the perfect pieces for my home.  Do you have any secret sources for vintage or designer furniture.  Please do tell in the comments.  Like I need one more place to shop!

Until next time . . .

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks

Hi everyone!  Everyone in the blogosphere has been posting about their Nordstrom Anniversary Sale picks.  So, I thought I would get on the bandwagon and throw my picks into the ring.

This beautiful jacket also comes in a light lavender and I bought that color to mix up my usual black coat uniform in the fall/winter.

Camo never goes out of style!

I rarely buy nice pajamas for myself, but these J. Crew jammies are a steal at the sale price.

These would be perfect for work in fall.

I am loving this mustard yellow color for fall.

These amazing Diptyque candles are a great value.  I read another blogger’s post who says they break up the set and give them as gifts.  I know I would love to be on the receiving end of that gift!

Did you order anything special?  I have to admit I broke down and placed two separate orders.  They always say to walk away from something and if you are still thinking of it a few days later, it is meant to be.  Right?  Well, that is how I am justifying it.

Until next time.

A New Line at Target: Opalhouse

Target has done it again! They have a new line of furniture and home decor that is very reminiscent of products from Anthropologie and Serena and Lily at a much more affordable price point.

They have furniture, decor, bedding, bath, kitchen and outdoor products.

Here are my favorite furniture pieces.  The bar cart and umbrella are my absolute favorites!

Rattan Console / Love Seat / Bar Cart / Umbrella / Chair / Lamp

Here are my favorite home decor finds.  I purchased the rattan tray and the peacock figurine.

Mirror / Pillow / Chandelier / Basket / Peacock Decor/ Tray

There are so many other good options in the line.  You must go check it out.  Target has been killing it lately.  I shopped the recent Hunter line for Target over the weekend and got some great finds.  Although I heard it sold out really fast!

Has anyone else checked out Opalhouse?  If so, tell us your favorite pieces in the comments.

Have a great day!

Lilly Pulitzer For Pottery Barn

Hi everyone!  I am so excited to tell you guys about this new collaboration.  Lilly Pulizer has a new bright and preppy line for Pottery Barn.  It includes Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids and PB Teen.  While there are some classic over the top prints, there are also a lot of more subdued decor, such as the bookshelf below.   Here are a few of my favorites from the collection.

Kennedy Bookcase

Polished Palm Tree Chandelier – A steal at $199

Ikat Lumbar Pillow

Big Palm Wallpaper

Lilly Custom Lumbar

Gold Cane Mirror

Rhodes Occasional Chair

Round Shell Mirror

I love the Palm Beach preppy vibe of Lilly Pulitzer style.  I am seriously considering ordering the rattan bookshelf for my daughter’s room.  Time to get rid of our Target bookcase that is falling apart.

Until next time.

My New Online Shopping Strategy

Hi friends!  Happy Sunday.  I have to share with you a new way to find home decor for a steal.  I am obsessed.  Have you ever heard of “open box sales?”  It is where a customer orders something, decides it is not to their liking and returns it.  The returns department then inspects it to make sure it is in perfect condition and then they turn it around and resell it for a highly reduced price.  So, essentially it is a new, unused item that has just been unboxed.

Open box items are most common with electronics retailers, but many home decor and lighting retailers also have open box items.  Wayfair, Bellacor, and Lumens have open box sales.

Keep in mind this type of bargain hunting is not for the weak of heart.  It is similar to going into a TJ Maxx or Marshall’s and taking the time to slowly go thru the racks looking for the diamond in the rough.  When I looked at Bellacor, for instance, they had 86 pages of open box items.  However, if you love the thrill of getting a deep discount, the rush is worth it.  Here are a few of my favorite finds from Bellacor.  I actually ended up purchasing the rug and chair.  They have arrived and they are in perfect condition and are lovely.

First up is this faux bamboo chair.  I bought this to use as my desk chair.  Regular price: $359.  Open Box price: $153.97.

This rug by Loloi is regularly $179.00.  Open Box price: $75.00.
These vases are modern luxe at its best.  The large one is normally $170.  Open Box price: $64.97

This beautiful vanity light is $186 regular price.  Open Box price: $85.97.

This adorable outdoor light fixture is only $37.87.

What do you think?  Definite steals, right?  Only thing I have found is that the open box price may vary from day-to-day.  So, shop early and shop often.

Do you have any stores where you have found good open box sales?  If so, please let us know your secrets in the comments.

Have a great rest of the day.

Until next time  . . .

Holiday 2017 Gift Guide For The Design Lover

Hi everyone!  I am back with another gift guide for your 2017 shopping pleasure.  I spent all weekend helping to put on a holiday home tour where 6 beautiful homes were decorated beautifully by interior designers, so I have decor on the brain.  Below are my picks for the design lover in your life.

Velvet Pillow / Canisters / Frame / Box / Door Vase / Sculpture

Hoping this gives you some ideas for the loved ones in your life (or for yourself).  I am trying not to panic.  I still have so much shopping to do!

Also, stay tuned.  On Thursday I will have our holiday home tour up as part of A Stroll Thru Life’s blog hop.

Going Digital with Holiday Cards

Hi everyone!  I’m thinking of taking a different approach for my holiday cards this year.  Does this scenario sound familiar?  Spend way to much money on a photographer to take your family photos.  Wait to the last minute to order the perfect holiday card that seemed reasonably priced until there were ridiculous charges for special card shapes, unique envelope liners and shimmer paper.  The cards arrive and you procrastinate addressing them.  Some never make it to their recipients by December 25th?

Despite my promises every year to, “Be more organized this year,” the same thing happens to me every year.  This year, I have decided to save myself the headache, save some trees, and go digital with a holiday card from Paperless Post.

The process could not be easier.  You simply upload your photo (if you want to use one), customize the card, enter in your recipient email addresses and hit send.  Then if you are type A like me, you add it to your to-do list and then very proudly cross holiday cards off you list.

Here is the card I opted for this year.  I love its simplicity and pop of red.  It is like a present you can’t wait to open.

Here are a few other options from Paperless Post I really love.

You likely know of my Greek Key obsession!

This one brings me back to the sleepless nights of having newborns that I thought would never end!

What about you?  Have you ordered your holiday cards this year?  Save yourself the headache and some trees and go digital!

Fall Favorites From Target’s New Home Line

Hi friends!  I received a cataloge from Target a few weeks ago and it appears they have launched a few new brands, include a home line called Project 62.  Here are a few of my favorites.  Apparently, blush tones are very in which is good for me because I have a lot of them in my home.

Planter / Abstract Art / Pillow / Vase / Wreath / Mirror

The abstract art print is a steal at only $70 dollars given its scale.  Apparently, designer Emily Henderson has the same print in her home.  I am really tempted to get it for my bedroom.

Have you added any fall details to your home?  I seriously need to restrain myself.  I have been buying way too much home stuff lately.  Darn you Target!!

Until next time.
