A Tale of Two Mirrors

Hi everyone!  I hope your week is off to a great start.  We are on vacation this week, so I hope to relax and also catch up on some blogging posts I have been meaning to share with you.  For now, I want to show you a fun paint project I did that has made a big impact.

A ways back I scored a major find on Craigslist.  It was a vintage Henredon dresser and the price was right at only $200.

What sweetened the deal even more was that it came with two beautiful faux bamboo mirrors.  It is so hard to find a set of matching vintage mirrors, so I could not believe my luck!  Here they are.

I didn’t have room for them in our bedroom above the dresser, so I had long-term plans to paint them and use them in our dining room.  We recently painted out dining room a really deep purple, almost an eggplant color and I opted to paint them a very light shade of lavender.  Bold color choices, I know!

All in all I am very pleased with the results.  The mirrors really complement the other pieces and accent colors I have going on in the dining room.  The room is starting to turn out pretty glamorous considering I found most of it on Craigslist!!  See you can have the look for less!

What do you think?  Have you ever sacrificed a vintage piece in order to make it your own or are you a purist who thinks it should be kept in its original condition?

Until next time.

Bamboozled

Happy Monday everyone!  As you can tell from my last post, and my Instagram feed, I have faux bamboo on the brain in a major way.  I just can’t get enough of it.  I think I really love how classic, clean and collected it looks and I think it is fun to pair with more modern pieces.

I love its presence in the interiors below:

I posted here about this Craigslist find the other day.  This brings my faux bamboo total up to 11.  I may have a slight problem.

Thomasville Faux Bamboo Hutch

Here are the faux bamboo chairs I found on Craigslist to compliment the hutch  I plan to paint them a glossy black and am in the process of picking out a colorful fabric for the seats.

I am going to have a painting filled weekend next weekend, but I can’t wait to transform these chairs.  Between the chairs and the new hutch, my dining room is going to feel like a completely new space.  I wasn’t even planning on re-doing it.  I guess that is the way a design addict operates.  Design, finish, repeat!

I hope you all have a wonderful week.  I am already looking forward to next weekend.  I have two local blogger friends coming over for dessert and cocktails.  I can’t wait!!

Where I Have Been and a Decor Score

Hi my lovely readers!  I know, it has been ages since I wrote a blog  post.  As some of you may know, my job which is supposed to be part-time has been more full-time lately.  I have also been studying for a national certification exam that has taken every moment of my spare time.  I apologize!

Well, the good news is that I PASSED my exam.  Whew!!  I really put in a lot of hours at the end because lord knows I did not want to take the darn test again.

HR Cert

Well, I think all of my hard work was rewarded because a few days after I took the test, my dear friend Shavonda from SGStyle texted me about an amazing set of vintage Thomasville faux bamboo furniture for sale for a steal on Craigslist.  The entire set, which included a dining table, four chairs, a china hutch and a buffet was only $400.  The problem was that I did not need all of the furniture.  Well, it turned out that Shavonda had a friend who wanted the chairs and I wanted the table and hutch, so Shavonda took the buffet and we were ready to roll.

Here are photos of the hutch (sorry for the photo quality but I took them on my phone.)

I am in love with it!!  I am going to live with it in this color for a while and see if I want to paint it.  I also found some faux bamboo dining chairs that I haven’t had time to post about, but I am going to have a totally new dining room!!  My husband officially wins husband of the year award because he helped me move all of this furniture and even drove three hours to get me the faux bamboo chairs.  He seriously thinks I am crazy, but I don’t care. I can’t pass up a vintage decor steal.

I hope you have all been doing well and I am definitely going to be posting more regularly now that my test is over!
