Winter Wonderland Mantle

Today, I thought I would give you a preview of some of the Christmas decorating going on around our house!

Mantel 3 wm

This year I decided to decorate with silver and white to create an ethereal winter wonderland effect.

My biggest challenge decorating our mantle is that it has a BIG, FAT, UGLY flat screen TV on it. This was a battle I lost with my husband. With only one mantle in the house and few locations for a TV, it was the only realistic place for it.

Please tell me I am not the only one who argues over these things! I suggested taking it down for my mantle photos (you can imagine how that went over)!  So, please don’t let the elephant in the room distract you!

The outer stockings are from Pottery Barn and the soft faux fur ones in the middle are from Restoration Hardware.

The ornament garland was purchased on clearance at Target last year after Christmas.  I love to shop after Christmas sales.  I think each one cost me about $5.  I could have done a DIY version, but it was going to be time-consuming and I would have to buy ornaments, so I opted for the simpler approach!

The silver gazelle head is from Marshall’s and was only $25.  The mirrored obelisks are actually bookends that I found at Homegoods.

The deer was bought at Michael’s decades ago and I spray painted it silver.  The votive holders are from Marshall’s.

These faux magnolia flowers were actually a Dollar Store find.  The center stamen was actually gold glitter so I used to craft glue and silver glitter to make them match my decor.

The silver magnolia wreath is actually the same wreath I posted about here, but I painted it silver and added a white peacock ornament for some interest.

What do you think?  I am pretty happy with it and am glad I used only things I had on hand. It is so easy to go overboard at the holidays and want to purchase all new things.

Our tree and other sections of the house have pops of jewel tones, which I will show you in a later post!  Stay tuned.

I am linking my mantle up to this link party over at Our Fifth House.  You should check it out for more mantle inspiration!!

  1. SO pretty, Jennifer! Don’t worry about the tv, your decor steals the show. I love your cozy stockings and all the texture in the basket of wood and those gorgeous pine cones!

  2. Thanks so much Pam! I checked out your mantle as well and I am loving the Tartan. Also, you are so creative the things you find to line those bookcases with! Thanks for stopping by!

I agree with Pam. And your mantel decor is just beautiful!
If I want something done when I take photos I don’t even ask anymore. I just do it when he’s not home 😉 but I’m actually liking TVs on top of mantels!

  4. LOVE everything – I think you did a fabulous job working around the TV! Everyone’s been doing gold so I feel like the silver theme is such a breath of fresh air!! So lovely!

    • Thanks so much Becky! You are so right about the gold this year. I just checked out your blog and it looks like you are in SF? I am close by in Sacramento and my sister lives in SF and I am there all the time. Small world! Thank you so much for stopping by!
