Valentine’s Day Ideas for Kids

Hi friends!  Well, it is officially February and that means I am wracking my brain for cute ideas for Valentine’s Day for my little girls to bring to school.  I really try not to be a “I don’t know how she does it” mom, but gone are the days of easy, basic valentines that I remember so well growing up.

Here are some of the best (and easiest) ideas I saw during my search.

I am really liking the “I dig you” one with the shovel, although the apple sauce squeezer one is tempting, since I have everything on hand.

What do you do for  your kids on Valentine’s Day?  Do you go all out or try to keep it simple?

I hope these ideas gave you some inspiration.  I guarantee that with little effort on these, someone will be wondering, “how does she do it?”

Have a great Monday!!

Subtle Valentine’s Decor

I don’t really decorate for Valentine’s Day.  Partly out of laziness and partly because it is hard to do without it looking somewhat juvenile.  I was looking on Pinterest when I saw a ton of cute and understated ideas.  See below for inspiration!

What do you think?  Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day?  Maybe next year, I will try some of these ideas.

Wishing you a wonderful Valentine’s Day!  Off to spend some time with my sweeties.

DIY Spotted Tablecloth

The other day I posted here about our Valentine’s Day table.

Valentine's Table VM

I thought I would show you how to make the DIY spotted pink tablecloth on the table.  It is so easy to do and it can be customized to any color scheme.  I think it would be really nice with black spots as well.

Here is what I used:

  • 1 1/2 yards of white fabric
  • Potatoes in a small, medium and large size
  • Acrylic Fabric Paint that can be used on fabric (I used Marta Stewart Craft Paint in Fruit Punch)
  • Foam Paint Brush (not pictured)

FIRST, I covered my table with plastic garbage bags.  This paint definitely bleeds through the fabric, so protect the underlying surface.

SECOND, I cut each potato in half and dipped a half in the paint.  I randomly stamped the fabric all over.  I like that the shapes of the potatoes are not perfectly round.  It makes it look custom and unique as opposed to polka-dotted.

FINALLY, I took the end of a foam paint brush and dipped it in the paint and added random round circles where there were empty spots.  The end of the brush is also useful for filling in any mistakes made using the potato stamps.

That is it- easy peasy!  I bet my four-year old has done something similar in preschool!  It is fun and adds a pop of color to our house for Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day Touches Around Our Home

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, so I thought I would show you some of Cupid’s touches around our house.  I know many people are Valentine’s Day haters, but I have grown to love it by watching my little girls get so excited.  Did anyone happen to see the SNL skit last Saturday night about the crappy last-minute Valentine’s day gifts you can buy at CVS?  It was hilarious and so classic!  Definitely worth finding and watching.

Anyways . . . Here are some photos.  I used mostly things I already own, adding some hearts and pops of pink!   Stay tuned this week, as I will be doing a tutorial on how to make this DIY Spotted Tablecloth!
