2017 Summer Home Tour

Hello friends both old and new!  If you are joining me from 21 Rosemary Lane – Welcome!  Barbara’s home was amazing.  Her style creates such a fresh, cozy and welcoming home.

Marty at A Stroll Thru Life has done it again and has a team of 30 bloggers ready to show you their homes decked out for summer.  If you are new around here, we bought our older home that needed lots of TLC almost two years ago and are fixing it up one room at a time.  We FINALLY finished our master bedroom makeover, which I have a preview of on the tour.

Let’s get started.  As you walk into our home, the first room you see is our living room.  It used to be awful shade of brown, so I added some color with this dreamy blue.

For summer, I switched up some of our accessories adding coral for a beachy vibe.  I also swapped out the pillows on our couch for these fun blew animal pattern pillows.  They are just beautiful and have tassels on each corner.  I found them at Homegoods and they were a steal.

Adjacent to our living room is our formal dining room.  For this room, I was feeling a tropical vibe with bright colors for summer.

Next to our kitchen (which I will not have photos of because it needs major renovation) is our breakfast nook. These beautiful pink and blue hydrangeas were perfect for this space.

I also added a combination of roses and peonies to my collection of blue and white jars.  I wish peonies were in season all year.  They are gone before I blink my eyes.

Up next is a sneak peak at our master bedroom makeover.  I am still waiting on some art and accessories, but it is 95% done.  You may think I am crazy, but I went with this beautiful pale pink color for the walls.

The bedding is from Ballard Designs and the x-benches are just benches from Target that I upholstered.

I added some tassel trim to basic Ikea curtains to give them some interest

The Chinoserie chandelier was a Craigslist find. It even came with the lampshades!

I am loving these burl wood boxes from CB2.  I can think of a hundred ways to use them to style various areas of my home.  I had actually never shopped at CB2, but am really impressed with the quality of the boxes, given their reasonable price.

One of my favorite things in the space are these three-arm sconces from Gabby Home.  They have gold leaf on the inside of the shades and add a glam touch to the room.

I kept the styling on our dresser rather simple.

I also added some touches to our master bathroom to tie it into the master.  First, I finally got rid of my old terrycloth robe and replaced it with this silk beauty.  I found it at Marshall’s one day and it is from high end lingerie designer Natori.  Definitely shoportunities to be had at Marshalls!

Pink accent towels tie in with the walls of the bedroom.

I found this fun vintage lion towel ring on Ebay.  I adore it!

I painted a chipped rattan stool I found at a flea market a glossy black and it totally transformed it.  I am glad to have a place to store our extra towels since before I was keeping them on top of the toilet- ICK!

Next up is Jennifer from The Chronicles of Home.  You are in for a treat.  Jennifer has the balance of modern and traditional down pat and her home is always a breath of fresh air.

Summer Home Tour 2016

Hi everyone!  It must be summer, because it is summer home tour time.  I have teamed up once again with the fabulous Marty at A Stroll Thru Life and many other talented bloggers to show you our summer homes.  There is so much talent and so many different design styles, these tours are chock full of inspiration.

If you are coming over from Our Fifth House- Welcome!  If you are new here, I’m Jennifer – a Human Resources consultant by day and a design enthusiast and blogger in the wee hours of the night!  Our family recently purchased our dream home that we rented for 3 years, so are so excited to fix it up and make it our own one room at a time. Bye bye beige walls and hello color!

Welcome to our home.  Come on in!

There have been many transformations in our home over the last few months, but one of my favorites has been using wallpaper in our breakfast room.  It is the perfect small space to experiment with a fun pattern.

Summer Home Tour 1

I love my collection of blue and white jars, they are so versatile.  You can use them so many ways in so many spaces.  Some are vintage and some are Ross and Homegoods finds!

I found these prints at an antique fair intending to use them just for the frames, but when I put them against this wallpaper, I fell in love.

We also recently renovated our master bathroom.  I went with black, white and brass fixtures and love the simplicity.  We added some interest with pattern in the subway tiles and dark grout for a graphic punch.

Why must we have light switches, or cords for that matter???  The design nerd in me cringes at the switches in this photo.

My cousin, who is an artist, painted the swan print.  My first piece of commissioned art- I feel so grown up!

We FINALLY got new sofas for our living room.  Our old sofas were my husbands before we got married, so about 14 years old!!  We ended up going with two Kendall sofas from World Market in Midnight Blue. They were super affordable and the style I wanted.  Since they were not a splurge, I will not bite my 6 and 4 year olds’ heads off if they spill something on them.  In a few years, I will splurge on higher-end sofas.  For now they work!

I love the combination of blue and orange, and when I found fun napkins embroidered in orange, I had the colors for my summer table.

We recently painted our dining room a deep shade of purple, almost and eggplant color. It was a bold move, but I love it.

I found the napkins at Marshall’s, the flatware is from Target and the tumblers are vintage.

Finally, I recently made over my daughter’s room for Calling it Home’s One Room Challenge.  You can see the entire transformation here.

For summer, I wanted to add these fun flamingos I found at an antique fair.  I thought they went well with her new pale pink curtains!
