Kitchen Trend: Tuxedo Kitchens

Hi everyone!  Hope you had a great weekend.  I made a trip to San Francisco with my kids and picked up a major Craigslist score!  More details to come.  It made the long day at the Exploratorium with five kids worth it!

You may have not heard of the term “tuxedo kitchen,” but you have likely seen the color-blocked images. The style is relatively simple, usually with white on the top, and a darker color such as black or dark gray on the bottom of the kitchen.  I am a huge fan of black and white and we recently renovated one of our bathrooms using that design scheme.  So obviously this trend in two-toned tuxedo kitchens is right up my alley.

One of these days, we hope to renovate our kitchen and I am Pinning these tuxedo designs left and right. I love the simplicity of the plain white subway tile and cabinets on top and black on the bottom.

My favorite spot in this space is the black cabinet.  Love how it looks open and with the white dishes. The beautiful black and brass stove is not too hard on the eyes either!  It is like a piece of art.

I love the slight pop of gold in this space on the inside of the pendants.  The natural wood stools balance out the glam vibe of he black and gold.

So elegant, simple and balanced.  Even the clock is black and white.

The artwork and accessories work to keep this space feeling interesting.

The vintage rug adds just the right amount of color, interest and texture to this space.

What do you think?  Simple and elegant or too basic?

Until next time . . .
