Our 2016 Holiday Home Tour

Hi everyone!!  I have teamed up once again with the fabulous Marty at A Stroll Thru Life and many other talented bloggers to show you our holiday homes decked out in holiday cheer.  There is so much talent and so many different design styles, these tours are chock full of inspiration.  A huge thank you to Marty for putting this all together.

If you are coming over from Pam at Simple Details– Welcome!  I just love Pam’s chic style and eye for detail, and man can that girl spy a Craigslist find!  If you are new here, I’m Jennifer – a Human Resources consultant by day and a design enthusiast and blogger in the wee hours of the night! Our family recently purchased our dream home that we rented for 3 years, so are so excited to fix it up and make it our own one room at a time. Bye bye beige walls and hello color!

So, without further ado, welcome to our home.  Get yourself a hot chocolate and come on in!

I thought it would be fitting to start with the entry to our home.  This is the only place where you will find traditional holiday green and red.  Here, Santa is in his sleigh full of gifts for good girls and boys! I embellished it by adding garland, a poinsettia and some birch accents.

As you walk into our home we have a small entry table and a long hallway.  This hallway was recently painted and declutterd and we added sconces.  The runners are from Home Decorator’s Collection and they look vintage and a great price.  I get compliments on them all the time.

Our tree is very similar to last year’s with a few additional ornaments.  I have collected jewel-toned ornaments forever, so while it is tempting to want to go with more traditional colors, it would be expensive to start over.  Maybe one of these years!

Our jewel-toned tree blends great with our new navy sofa and walls in the hallway.

I thought I would give our gold faux bamboo mirror its own bling with a magnolia leaf wreath with a few of the leaves painted gold.

I added some white bottle brush trees from Target to my obelisk collection and voila- instant Christmas decor.

One thing I did this year was to decorate my daughter’s rooms for the holidays.  I just did a few embellishments based on the colors already in their rooms.  This is my older daughter’s room and I added to already bright decor with pinks and greens.  The wreaths are Smith and Hawkin from Target.

Pink Christmas Home Tour 5

I used simple craft store tassels and faux gems to dress up the gift packages.

My younger daughter’s room is much more neutral, so I went with winter white, grey and pink.  I found the fun “Let it Snow” banner on clearance at Homegoods last year after Christmas.

These are a few of the Eiffel Tower ornaments I have collected over the years.

This is the first year I have decorated our breakfast nook.  With the new wallpaper, I thought that blue nd white colors would be fitting and I threw in some very pale pink with ribbon and Amaryllis flowers.

I added tons of wreaths and even put garland on the Chinoiserie chandelier.  Some vintage white peacocks top it off. It makes it look like a birdcage to me!

DIY Mounted Deer Head

Oh “Deer!”  If you have opened a catalog or interior design magazine recently, you will notice that antlers and taxidermy sculpture of any type is very popular right now.  They can be found in the form of deer, bull, ram, and even moose!

You can purchase them at many retailers right now from ZGallerie, to West Elm, to Target and they vary in price depending on  the size.

These are a really fun accessory, especially around the holidays.  However, they are definitely trendy and can be expensive.

So, a few years ago, I decided to make my own.  It was so cheap and easy to do, I won’t feel bad taking it down when the trend is over.

If you would like to try this trend with minimal investment, here is what I did.  I am sorry, but no pictures because I did this so long ago.

First, I found a paper mache reindeer similar to this at Michael’s.  I think my mom had about 10 of them in the 90’s!  I look at them totally different now!!

Next, I got my saw out and chopped the head off.  Yes, I might not be getting any presents from Santa anymore!  I used the wall as a reference to see how much I should chop off to see how it would sit on the wall.

Finally, I spray painted it high gloss white and used a simple nail to hang it on the wall. I put a gallery frame around mine, but the possibilities are endless!

Such an easy and inexpensive way to work the tend into your regular or holiday decorating!

What do you think?  Are you sold on this trend?  Too hunting lodge for you?  I think it is a great way to add a bit of modern whimsy to any type of decor.

xoxo
