Home Decor from Minted

Hi friends!  I have long been a fan of the online retailer Minted for their paper products, invitations and art work.  I recently discovered that they are now selling one-of-a-kind home decor items, such as pillows, curtains and lampshades.  The designs are created by independent artists so you are sure to find something you won’t find anything else.  The other nice feature is that each design comes in each type of decor so you can match your curtains to your pillows if you want no fail decorating or want to be super matchy-matchy.  On top of it all, the pieces are affordable!

Here are a few of my favorites:

I love the idea of creating a custom look!  Kind of like finding a prom dress that not everyone else will have, right?

Later in the week, I hope to show you a fun paint project I did on some thrifted mirrors.  The best news is I hired a handyman to hang them, so they did not sit propped up against the wall like so many mirrors before them 🙂

Hope you are having a great week.

Currently Coveting: Amorium Jewelry

Hi friends and Happy Monday!!  If you know me well, you know that I hoard accessories and jewelry is no exception.  I was recently contacted by Amorium Jewelry in New York. They make silver jewelry by hand in elegant and modern designs.  Let me tell you, if you love to layer and coordinate pieces of jewelry, Amorium is for you!  They sent me their Ires ring in rose gold to try out.

The ring is so beautiful.  Timeless and modern at the same time.  It also comes in silver and gold, but the rose gold is so on trend!

Here is the ring on.  It is very challenging to photograph yourself wearing jewelry.  I had to have my husband help, so you can thank him for the photos 🙂

Here are a few other pieces from Amorium that I adore.

This V Pendulum necklace could be layered with so many pieces.

Their Mimosa bracelet is like three bracelets in one with the multiple layers.

This arrow necklace is so fun and whimsical.

Armorium Arrow Neklace Amorium also offers unique pieces such as stackable rings and ear cuffs.  Head on over to Amorium to check out all of their unique pieces.

What’s New at Ballard Designs

Hi lovely readers!  I picked up the new Ballard Designs catalog over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised to see they had a variety of new items.

The style at Ballard is right up my alley.  It is founded in the traditional, but they also throw in modern and whimsical accents.  Here are my picks from their new catalog:

Ballard 2016 1 The new Octavia bookcase is just so fun and unique.  How fun would it be to display decor accents in the little octagons?  It comes in a variety of colors as well.

Ballard 2016 2

The Felicity line of acrylic end and coffee tables are just what I mean when I say that Ballard injects a little modern into their traditional designs.

Ballard 2016 The nailhead trim adds so much to the simple lines of the Haynes dining chair.

Ballard 2016 4 I am not a huge fan of animal print, but I find the antelope print on this rug to be so serene.  I would love to incorporate it into one of my neutral spaces.  Here it is used in a living room.  So rich and luxurious, right?

Ballard 2016 5

The imperfect chevron print on these pillows would create a graphic punch in any space.

Ballard 2016 8

I am on the lookout for art for our new home and I have always loved the dreamy abstract art from Ballards.  This blue piece from the new catalog is no exception.

Ballard 2016 9

If you have been reading the blog for a while, you know I am a huge fan of faux bamboo.  Can’t get enough of it!  This bamboo sconce would be perfect in an entry way or hallway.

Ballard 2016 10

One of my favorite things I saw in the catalog was not even something new.  It is a deal they are running on the Dayna chairs.  An oldie but a goodie.  It is one of their Best of Ballard sales.  You can get two side chairs for $399.00 or an arm-chair for $249.00.  Did I mention how much I love faux bamboo?  If you are a fan too, this is a great time to pick them up on sale, as they rarely go on sale.

What do you think?  Are you a Ballard fan?  Do you have anything you are swooning over that is new?  Do tell in the comments!

The Umbrella Stand

As fall is approaching, I am starting to think about umbrella stands.  Some people think of fall leaves, crisp nights or pumpkin spice lattes, but not me, I think of umbrella stands.

I am in the market for a new one for my entry.  I think an umbrella stand is a wonderful way to accessorize an entryway, but they can be used in other spaces as well.  They are great for small entry ways where you can’t fit larger pieces of furniture.

Traditional items to include obviously include umbrellas.  Umbrellas these days come in such a wide array of colors and patterns, you can create a unique statement.  Other things I like to use to style my umbrella stand are vintage tennis racquets and canes. Yes, you heard that right . . . canes.  My husband thought I was crazy when I bought one to include in our umbrella stand, but he just doesn’t get it!

Drop Cloth Decor

Today my friends I have a fun and super budget friendly decorating idea.  You can use simple painter’s drop cloths you can by at home improvement store to make curtains, pillows, slip covers, etc.  The options are endless.

I found a 4ft. x 15ft. drop cloth here at the Home Depot for only $17.00!  Here are some ideas on how to use these hardworking gems!

How adorable are these drop cloth curtains that the Hunted Interior did for her daughter’s big girl room?

Check out what Kate over at Centsational Girl did with drop cloth on the patio.  It has the look of an expensive cabana for much, much less!

Carmel over at Our Fifth House hit it out of the ballpark with these blue stenciled drapes.  You would never know they were made out of drop cloths and look like high-end fabric.  With the range of beautiful stencils out there, you could make anything you can dream up!

Martha Stewart herself is also on board.  She has created canopies, pillows and even an outdoor shower curtain out of drop cloths!

You could also make a hammock out of this inexpensive and easily accessible material.  Can you say Father’s Day gift?

Have you ever tried making something out of painter’s drop cloths?  Mine are mostly spattered with paint, but I may have to run out to Home Depot so I can give this a try!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!  Mine is going to be busy with a swim meet and ballet recital and I have about 20 home projects I want to tackle. Never enough time!

Layering Mirrors

I am a big fan of using mirrors to decorate just about any space.  They can trick the eye and create the look of more space of in a small space, and create interest and sparkle in just about any room.  I was intrigued by the images below that layer mirror upon mirror.  I think it is the perfect way to break up a wall or create a focal point.  It would also be a great way to update a boring, outdated bathroom!

I have never tried this and I am sure there is some type of adhesive to attach the mirrors.  Maybe I will  try it and report back!

What do you think?  Intriguing or overkill?

Have a wonderful Monday!!

Safavieh Furniture At Target

I am seriously considering changing the name of the blog to Totally Target or I Heart Target!  But, what do you know, Target has done it again!  It is now carrying a line of Safavieh furniture.  If you don’t know, Safavieh is a high-end furniture line based out of New York.  They offer a wide range of furniture and accessories for all rooms in the home.

Now, Target is carrying their furniture online (sorry it is not available in store-boo!)

Seriously, how amazing is this end table and it is only $150.00??

savfavieh target

You can buy this elegant and well made furniture at several different places, but Target has a few pieces that are Target exclusives.  You need to check out the entire line, but here are my favorites that are available only at Target.  They are so stylish and sooo reasonably priced for quality furniture!

All of these beauties are on sale now during Target’s big home sale.  You have to go check it out.  Even some of the pieces that are sold at places other than Target can be found cheaper because of the sale.  And if you have a Red Card you can save 5% and get free shipping!!

Happy shopping!

Indigo Accents

Everywhere I turn, I keep seeing the most rich hues of indigo blue.  From high-end retailers like Horchow to stores like Target, this trend is everywhere. It is one of the oldest methods for dying fabrics and has stood the test of time.  It works classically with white, but can also be mixed with other colors like pink or chartreuse.

Indigo

I am also really loving the indigo tie dye prints that are out there.  They are so relaxed and summery!  They have the power to transport me to an island in the Bahamas.  Maybe someday!  Here are some of my favorite picks on this trend.

What do you think?  It it a color you would use in the spring or summer?  If you had your own private island??

Decorating with Books

When I was looking at the design trends for 2014, it was said that books reduced to decor was on its way out.  It was called a “statement in not reading.”  I disagree.  I think there are many books that you can read and then enjoy as decor.  I feel like there is nothing more personal than decorating with books.  It tells a story of who you are, where you have been, and what your preferences are.

Books are so versatile.  You can style them on a bookshelf, stack them high and use them as an end table, or use them to give height and dimension to a coffee table or other vignette.  If you have been reading this blog for any period of time, you will know how I use books in many of my shoots and vignettes.

Decorating With Pine Cones

On our last trip to Lake Tahoe, I lugged home two grocery bags full of pine cones.  (My husband wanted to kill me by the way!)  Big ones, little ones, narrow ones, wide ones.  It didn’t matter that I didn’t have anything to do with them.  I would find a way to use them.

I ended up painting some of them and putting them in a basket with some birch logs by the mantel.

Here are some other ideas for decorating with this outdoor jewel.

So, next time you are up at the mountains bring some home!  The possibilities are endless for fall and Christmas decorating.  Perfect for kids crafts too!
