I really wish I could say I love Pantone’s color of the year, but I can’t. Marsala, Pantone’s color for 2015, is enough to push me deeper into my winter blahs. I don’t know about anyone else, but I am starting this year off in a “special” kind of mood. I was sick on New Years’s and am feeling unmotivated and very behind.
Here is Marsala. It is named after a fortified wine. Like I said . . . I would rather drink it than decorate with it!

I think it works best in smaller doses in spaces such as these. I like the understated look of the color in the rugs.

Or, another good option would be to incorporate the color in smaller doses uses home accents.
The murky color of Marsala was really not working for me. However, when I began to see how it plays against other colors, it started to grow on me a bit. Paired with the right colors, it looks more like a deep sienna or oxblood. I think it looks best with greens and blues, including navy, as well as pale pink.

Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year was Radiant Orchid, which I was smitten with.
The year before it was a shade of turquoise which is still trending. Who knows if Marsala will take off the same way. I guess time will tell!
What do you think? Are you a fan or would you rather drink it like me?
xoxo,
