Our Holiday Home with Personal Creations

Hi friends!!  I have one more sneak peek of our holiday home.  We added some personal touches with some photo gifts.  I love the modern look of lucite, so these acrylic photo blocks were the perfect choice to display the holiday photos we had taken of our family.  Having two young girls, giving photo gifts at Christmas are all the rage. Personal Creations has an amazing selection of unique photo gifts.  It is amazing to me what you can put a photo image on these days!

Our 2016 Holiday Card with Tiny Prints

Hi friends!!  I am so excited to have received our 2016 holiday cards from Tiny Prints.  I am in LOVE with them.

I bit the bullet this year and got professional photographs taken.  I haven’t done that since my girls were 3 and 1. Let me tell you, it was a challenging photo shoot when they were that young, and we truly only got one good shot of all of us.  Shall I say I was a bit too confident this year.  I thought to myself, “This is going to be a breeze now that they are 7 and 5.”  “Wrong,” I say now back to my smug self!

About 5 minutes into the shoot, my girls were lovingly hugging for one of the photos.  Then the photographer says, “Now make a funny face.”  My 5-year old Audrey proceeds to jump up, hitting my 7-year old Charlotte in the jaw, causing her to bust open her lip.  This is blood gushing all over the outfits I painstakingly planned to match but not be to “matchy-matchy”(everyone is as neurotic as me and does this, right?)  Then, to make matters worse, while my husband and I are taking solo shots (to let the bleeding stop, of course), Audrey proceeds to get into my purse and “apply” my lipstick all over her face.  I don’t think I will take professional photos for another two years!

That being said, our photos and our cards still turned out lovely.

This year, I went with a very simple card that speaks for itself.  I really wanted the photo to shine. We went with a personalized gold foil option and it is so chic.  Tiny Prints has an amazing selection of holiday cards, especially unique ones such as personalized foil, glitter and laser cut that are hard to find anywhere else.

It’s not too late to order cards or personalized gifts from Tiny Prints!.  You can see their entire selection here in their digital catalog.  Now I just need to get to addressing all of mine!

I hope that you and yours are truly enjoying your holiday season so far.

Until next time . . .

Our 2016 Holiday Home Tour

Hi everyone!!  I have teamed up once again with the fabulous Marty at A Stroll Thru Life and many other talented bloggers to show you our holiday homes decked out in holiday cheer.  There is so much talent and so many different design styles, these tours are chock full of inspiration.  A huge thank you to Marty for putting this all together.

If you are coming over from Pam at Simple Details– Welcome!  I just love Pam’s chic style and eye for detail, and man can that girl spy a Craigslist find!  If you are new here, I’m Jennifer – a Human Resources consultant by day and a design enthusiast and blogger in the wee hours of the night! Our family recently purchased our dream home that we rented for 3 years, so are so excited to fix it up and make it our own one room at a time. Bye bye beige walls and hello color!

So, without further ado, welcome to our home.  Get yourself a hot chocolate and come on in!

I thought it would be fitting to start with the entry to our home.  This is the only place where you will find traditional holiday green and red.  Here, Santa is in his sleigh full of gifts for good girls and boys! I embellished it by adding garland, a poinsettia and some birch accents.

holiday-home-tour-2016-14

holiday-home-tour-2016-15

As you walk into our home we have a small entry table and a long hallway.  This hallway was recently painted and declutterd and we added sconces.  The runners are from Home Decorator’s Collection and they look vintage and a great price.  I get compliments on them all the time.

holiday-home-tour-2016-7

holiday-home-tour-2016-8

Our tree is very similar to last year’s with a few additional ornaments.  I have collected jewel-toned ornaments forever, so while it is tempting to want to go with more traditional colors, it would be expensive to start over.  Maybe one of these years!

holiday-home-tour-2016-2

holiday-home-tour-2016-5

Our jewel-toned tree blends great with our new navy sofa and walls in the hallway.

holiday-home-tour-2016-28

I thought I would give our gold faux bamboo mirror its own bling with a magnolia leaf wreath with a few of the leaves painted gold.

holiday-home-tour-2016-27

I added some white bottle brush trees from Target to my obelisk collection and voila- instant Christmas decor.

holiday-home-tour-2016-26

holiday-home-tour-2016-23

One thing I did this year was to decorate my daughter’s rooms for the holidays.  I just did a few embellishments based on the colors already in their rooms.  This is my older daughter’s room and I added to already bright decor with pinks and greens.  The wreaths are Smith and Hawkin from Target.

Pink Christmas Home Tour 5

I used simple craft store tassels and faux gems to dress up the gift packages.

My younger daughter’s room is much more neutral, so I went with winter white, grey and pink.  I found the fun “Let it Snow” banner on clearance at Homegoods last year after Christmas.

These are a few of the Eiffel Tower ornaments I have collected over the years.

holiday-home-tour-2016-25

This is the first year I have decorated our breakfast nook.  With the new wallpaper, I thought that blue nd white colors would be fitting and I threw in some very pale pink with ribbon and Amaryllis flowers.

I added tons of wreaths and even put garland on the Chinoiserie chandelier.  Some vintage white peacocks top it off. It makes it look like a birdcage to me!

Holiday Gift Guide for Her

Hi all!!  Well Thanksgiving is over and it is time for major shopping madness.  I have a pretty good start on my shopping this year, but still have a ways to go.  I also keep buying little things for myself while I am holiday shopping which is dangerous!

Here is this year’s gift guide for her.  I know that I would personally love any of the items on this list! All of these are pretty reasonably priced as well.  Stay tuned as I hope to pull together a few more gift guides before Christmas!

Visual Comfort Basil Flush Mount

Hi friends!!  I have a new decor crush and I am so excited to share it.  I have been on the look out for new flush mount lights for our entry hallway.  Since we bought our house a year ago, I have painted our entry, rid the walls of clutter and added sconces.  The final change was getting rid of the outdated flush mount lights.

Flush mount lighting, or what I call “boob” lighting is not my favorite.  See what I mean?

lightexamples

Visual Comfort’s flush mounts are like the Rolls Royce of flush mounts (is there such a thing??)

The Basil flush mount reminds me of a four leaf clover!!  I finally bit the bullet and ordered one.  For me, these are on the pricey side, but once I saw it in person, it was so worth it.  Here is how it looks in some different spaces.

Currently Coveting: Burl Wood

Hi all!!  I have been a bad blogger.  I am sorry I have been MIA on the blog these days, but life has gotten the best of me.  Since school started in August we have had every kind of sickness possible. I am just now getting over a 3 week cold that required antibiotics to get over!  But enough complaining, today I am here to talk about burl wood.  I know, you might be thinking “Burl what?” You may know it when you see it.  The cabinet in this photo is burl wood.  The patterns in the wood just make me swoon!

burl-1

Burl wood actually wood from a tree in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner..  How can something considered deformed has such a beautiful end result??  In my opinion, it is classic and modern at the same time.  It is such a showstopper in any room.  I really want to get my hands on a piece, but it can be super pricey, so it may have to take the form of an accessory or mirror.

burl-2

An entire island of burl wood?  Yes, please!!

burl-4

burl-5

burl-6

I love the octagon shape of the mirror below paired with the burl wood.

burl-7

burls-3

Here are some ideas of products for bringing some burl into your life.

This burl wood mirror from Wisteria is simple, yet elegant.

If you have some extra dinero lying around, you may consider this burl wood console from Zinc Door.

Well, there you have it.  My current obsession.  It has been a trend for a while, but I can’t get it out of my head. What do you think?  Too busy or mesmerizing?

Hoping to pop in more next month to share some fall decorating tips!

A Furniture Makeover Using Oil-Based Paint from Ipaint!

Hi friends!!  I am so excited to share my latest furniture makeover with you.  There is nothing like a good furniture makeover when you are trying to get the look for less, right?

So, I have been wanting to makeover this Chinese Chippendale table for ages.  It has been sitting in my garage collecting dust.  My husband just loves that 🙂  It was purchased for a steal from the amazing Shavonda at SG Style, my local blogging buddy.  It had good bones, but the color was blah and it needed a serious paint job!  My procrastination ended when I was approached by Ipaint to try out one of their amazing paint products.  I leaped at the chance.

Here is the before:

black-console-5

iPaint has been manufacturing high quality paint and coatings for over 55 years.  They stock the largest selection of quality coatings in any size, in any shine, in any color,  at the best price available, with free delivery and a written -warranty!   They have unique paint such as swimming Pool Paint, Boat Paint, Epoxy Paint, Concrete Coatings, and Garage Paint Deck Paint.  Huge businesses such as Disneyland and Google use their paint.  How cool is that?

I chose their Blue Water Marine Paint Mega Gloss Alkyd Enamel.   It is an amazing oil-based paint that is usually made for painting boats.  So, it is super strong and durable and UV resistant.

I could not be more pleased with the results.  The paint has depth, is durable, and is as shiny as glass.  I have always loved the look of oil-based paint, but it is near impossible to find here in California anymore.  I cannot say enough about how bright and shiny this paint looks.  My piece looks totally transformed!  The pictures don’t do it justice.  It is more beautiful, with a glass-like finish in person.

I have to admit that painting with oil-based paint was everything I had heard it would be.  I sanded and primed my piece, but still had to apply three coats of the paint.  Every brush stroke will show if you are not careful, and clean up is a serious pain.  I had to use paint thinner to clean my paint brush (and my hands) every time!  It definitely requires patience.

However, it was totally worth it.  You simply can’t get these results with a water-based high gloss paint.  Here are the after photos.

black-console

black-console-2 black-console-3

The pictures don’t do it justice.  It is more beautiful, with a glass-like finish in person.

I can’t wait to use this paint again.  I think I may use it on my daughter’s desk because it is so durable.  Head on over to Ipaint to find the paint for your next project.

Until next time  . . .

*This is not a sponsored post.  Ipaint did provide paint for my review, but all opinions, as always, are my own.

**This post contains an affiliate link, which means that I may get a commissions if you decide to purchase anything from Ipaint.  I only recommend products that I use and love myself, so I know you’ll be in good hands.  Thanks for supporting my cheap wine habit!

Fall Home Tour 2016

Hi everyone!  I have teamed up once again with the fabulous Marty at A Stroll Thru Life and many other talented bloggers to show you our fall homes.  There is so much talent and so many different design styles, these tours are chock full of inspiration. I have to admit that I don’t decorate our home a ton for fall.  I am not a huge fan of the typical fall colors.  Going into a craft store in fall is enough to make me pass out with all the orange, yellow and brown!   Coupled with the fact that it is still 90 degrees where I live, this tour will be filled with small touches that make our home feel cozy this time of year.

fall-home-tour-2

If you are coming over from Life On Virginia Street– Welcome!  I just love Sarah’s style and her clean and neutral decorating.

Welcome to our home.  Get yourself a pumpkin spice latte and come on in!

We recently painted our main living room this color blue.  The walls were DARK brown before, so I am loving the lighter look.  The gold mirror was a Craigslist score.  Had to travel about an hour to pick it up, but sooo worth it!

fall-home-tour-2016-7

As I said, I don’t do typical fall colors, but I do love gold.  Hence the gold mirror and candle pot.

fall-home-tour-2016-18

One of the few fall touches I have added are new pillows in a blush and rose color and a plaid throw.   fall-home-tour-2016-6

fall-home-tour-2016-5

I also like to decorate our fireplace with baskets of wood for fall.  If you are going to copy a similar look, I recommend going with birch logs (the beauty queen of wood!)

fall-home-tour-2016

I added these small green mums to my floral arrangement.  While I am not a fan of typical mums, these smaller green ones are compact and look more modern and fresh.

fall-home-tour-2016-15

Fall is a great time to bring in your more natural elements.  I brought out this trinket box made of natural stone.

fall-home-tour-2016-17

I recently moved some furniture around and my collection of obelisks.  Here is where they currently reside.  I actually have two more obelisks I added to my collection since these photos were taken.  Homegoods has had some recently for amazing prices!!

fall-home-tour-2016-1

fall-home-tour-2016-19

I hosted a small event earlier this month and I created a table runner made entirely of eucalyptus branches.  It was beautiful and even cascaded over the sides of the table.  I added in some cream roses for more interest.

We recently painted our dining room a deep purple, almost eggplant color.  I added a purple orchid and candles to compliment it.  I think deep purple or amethyst is a lovely alternative color for fall.

Classic sunflowers adorn our breakfast nook.  I like the way it pairs with the blue and white wallpaper.

What tour would be complete without a glimpse of the bar cart? I added some simple hand towels in a beautiful persimmon color from World Market to give a touch of fall.

6 Ways To Use Trendy Tropical Prints in Your Home

Hi all!  Happy Friday.  I don’t know about you, but for me, this was the longest 4-day week EVER!!

Call it palm print or banana leaf print, but this trend has been around for a while and is still going strong.  No need to book a tropical vacation when you can have a taste of the tropics all year round. This tropical print is bold, but you can incorporate it in smaller doses with smaller decor items such as a pillow or a print, as in the photo below.

Palm Leaf 1

A powder room is the perfect space to experiment with bold wallpaper.

Palm Leaf 4

Palm Leaf 2

Incorporate a pillow, or two, or three!

Palm Leaf 3

Why stop at a pillow when you can deck out your entire bed in this bold pattern.

Palm Leaf 5

What a pop of color the print adds to this neutral space.

Palm Leaf 6

Palm Leaf 7

The trend goes preppy when patterned with pink and white.  I adore this space!!

Palm Leaf 8

Palm Leaf 10

Custom upholstered headboard, anyone??

Palm Leaf 9

If you are looking to add a dash of this trend to your space, here are my picks for home decor options:

ob-palm-leaf

Round Towel / Wallpaper / Pillow / Shower Curtain / Tray / Clock

What do you think?  Too trendy or a new classic?  You can definitely go bold with this fun print.

Have an amazing weekend friends!
