DIY Hopscotch Mat

Today, I wanted to pop in and share with you a fun and simple DIY.  The weather is heating up around here and we are spending tons of time outdoors.  We had a pool party a few weeks ago and I wanted to add some creative games for the kids to play.

My kids spend hours playing hopscotch at the park and at school, so I thought it would be fun to make a portable hopscotch mat.

Here is what you will need:

  • Plain black runner
  • White Chalk
  • Measuring tape
  • Level
  • White craft paint
  • Small paint brush

I really think the hardest part of this project was finding a black runner.  You would think they would be everywhere.  I spent hours scouring the internet and could not find a plain black one in the dimensions I wanted.  Finally, I found one on sale at Homegoods.

Here is what you do:

First, using a level, measure the boxes that the numbers will go in and outline them lightly in chalk.

Second, freehand or use a stencil to add numbers to the boxes and trace the numbers in chalk.

Third, go over the entire template with white craft paint.

Finally, spend hours watching your children have fun playing hopscotch wherever their hearts desire- even indoors!

Here is a final picture of Audrey trying to be like her big sister.  Don’t quite think she gets how to play yet!

This is one of the many DIY project I did for the Home Depot Patio Style Challenge.  You can read about it here or on The Home Depot’s blog The Apron.

What do you think?  Have you ever done a DIY specifically for kids?  I hope this one provides endless hours of entertainment!

Hope you are having a great week!

xoxo
