Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. I was surprisingly productive despite my family being under the weather. I was flipping through holiday catalogs over the weekend, and was inspired by this cute faux mink wine collar from Grandinroad. I thought it would make a fun bar cart accessory or hostess gift. However, at $19.00 I could live without it.
I started to think about purchasing some faux mink fabric to do a knockoff, but it was upwards of $20 per yard everywhere I looked. That is when I realized I had this old toddler coat my girls had outgrown (sorry for the lame iphone pic.) Perfect, right? I also ended up using the rest of the coat as a tree skirt on a mini tree I am decorating for Christmas. Stay tuned!!
I used a seam ripper to detach the collar and then just pinned it and sewed a few stitches with my sewing machine to close up the frayed edges. I also had an old brooch my grandmother had given me a few years back. I think it adds just the right amount of sparkle and has special meaning to me. This is how it turned out. Not bad for free!!
. If you are not in a DIY mood you can get a very affordable version at World Market for only $6.99. It even comes with a hat topper!
Did you tackle any fun projects this weekend? Stay tuned in the following weeks as I have a ton of easy holiday DIY’s coming your way. In the meantime, you can check out my DIY faux fur tree skirt from last year!
