The Money Pit Update: Roman Shades

Hi everyone and happy Friday!!

I have been furiously making plans for updates to our new (ish) home.  One thing that came along with our beautiful old home (aka “The Money Pit”), was tons of beautiful old windows.  The home is on the corner of a very busy street, so privacy is a concern for us.  In addition, our new bathroom renovation, that I wrote about here, left us completely exposed to our neighbors.  Eek!

So, when Blindster reached out to me with an opportunity to try out some of their window coverings, I jumped at the opportunity!  I felt that our kitchen, which faces the busy street and our new bathroom were the best places to start.

I have always been a huge fan of Roman shades and have even contemplated DIY’ing some of my own. For our new bathroom I chose their Premium Roman Shades in this fun graphic print. How perfect does it go with my black, white and brass color scheme?

The shades obviously go all the way down, but I love the way they lay when they are pulled up half way!

For the kitchen, I went with this pattern in the Premium Roman Shades called Kitani Indigo.  I was a little unsure about how the pattern on the fabric would look in person, but I cannot tell you how much I love these shades.  The fabric is beautiful and the print modern, yet classic with its blue and white tones. It provides the perfect amount of privacy and they are so easy to open and close.

Windows can be so challenging to photograph, these photos do not do justice to how beautiful these roman shades are.

Here is this fun pattern up close.  I LOVE it so much!

Going with a custom product like this was the perfect solution for us.  As our home is an older home, the windows are difficult to fit.  That was no problem at all with their online measuring guide that helped me completely customize the shades.  You can even customize the type of lining and sides the pulls are on. And if they don’t get it right, they have a special Fit-or-Free policy that guarantees your money back!

The shades arrived lightning fast and were a breeze for me (aka my husband) to install. We have had the shades for about 2 weeks now and they are a dream come true.  I no longer have to worry about my neighbors getting a peep show!

We have so many more windows to cover in our home.  We plan to plug along room by room. That is the thing with window coverings; they can be so expensive, it is hard to do an entire house at once.  Blindster is such an affordable option, you practically CAN afford to do an entire home Right now they are offering 25% off everything.  You can see their Facebook page for details.

Tell me how do you cover your windows.  Shutters, blinds, curtains?  Do you do it for privacy or more for looks?

Until next time . . .

**This is not a sponsored post.  Blindster did provide the shades.  All opinions, as always, are my own.

RugpadUSA Review and Giveaway!

Happy Monday my lovely readers!!  I have a fun giveaway for you today! A few months back, I was lucky enough to get to try out and review a RugpadUSA rug pad.  I can’t tell you what a difference this made for our area rugs.  The problem we were having was that our rugs were thin and our old rug pad did not provide enough padding.  In addition, the rugs would constantly bunch up and wrinkle.  Our rug pad from RugpadUSA fixed both problems.  You can read my full review here.

The wonderful thing about RugpadUSA rugs is that they are environmentally safe.   In case you did not know, most rug pads are made with pvc or plastic, often chemically ridden, toxic, and harmful for your floors. RugpadUSA offer an eco-friendly alternative to all the cheap and toxic pvc rug pads traditionally available in big box stores.  This has become increasingly important to me, now that I have little ones and a dog who are often so close to and playing on our rugs. RugpadUSA has generously offered to giveaway an 8×10 Superior Lock rug pad to one lucky reader.

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Hey all!  I am popping in today to share my picks for Mother’s Day this year.  I actually do these gift guides for personal reasons because sometimes the hubs actually reads the blog and takes the hints.  Last year I got the adorable flamingo flats I wished for here.  Apparently, compulsively dropping hints verbally does not work!  Getting this up later than I planned, but better late than never! OB-Mother's Day Gifts

Tote / Pajamas / Necklace / Perfume / Trinket Box / Throw

Aren’t the macaron trinket boxes adorable?  What is your favorite pick?  Anything special on your wish list this year?

Have a great Monday!! xoxo

Decorating with Vintage Rugs from Chairish

Happy Friday loves!  I was approached by designer site Chairish and challenged to create a room using one of their vintage rugs as the centerpiece.  Challenge accepted!

If you have never heard of Chairish, you can read about them here, as I did an entire post about how much I love the site.  In a nutshell, it is an online consignment marketplace for the design obsessed.  It is basically a Craigslist or Ebay with only the good stuff!!  Amazing, right?

I chose a gorgeous Missoni rug with lots of color as my centerpiece.  You can see sources for all of the products used at the end of the post!

Chairish Design Board (2) Tulip Table / Chandelier / Fiddle Leaf Fig / Ghost Chair

What do you think?  I love it because it has a nice balance of traditional and modern, and has just the right pop of color!

If you have never checked out Chairish, I highly recommend it.  You can find some amazing deals on unique designer decor!

Have an amazing weekend!  I will be working on hard on my patio!!

Gift Guide for Him (AKA Mr.Hard to Buy for)

Hi everyone!  I am so proud of myself.  I have managed to put together not one, but two gift guides.  Although, this one was put together for purely selfish reasons.  My husband is sooo hard to buy for, so I had to come up with a list of possibilities.  He won’t even take the bait when I ask him what he wants or hint at possible gift ideas.  I on the other hand could not be easier to buy for.  I drop hints left and right and even put together gift guides for her (okay me).

So, here are some ideas for the husband or man in your life.

OB-Gift Guide for Him

Scarf / Barware / Toiletry Case / Shirt /  Chess Set / Jacket

Do you have any hard to buy for guys in your life?  Do you have a “go-to” gift for men?  Do share in the comments.  We women must unite and share ideas!

Gift Guide for Her (Okay . . . for me)

So last year, I sat by as all of the talented bloggers I follow published posts on holiday gift guides. Gift guides for him, for children, for pets, for the hostess, for the obsessive compulsive, etc.   I really wanted to publish my own last year, but there was simply not enough time.  I am learning that when I surf the internet trying to come up with amazing gifts, I get sucked into websites and lose track of all time!

This year I was determined to come up with a guide, so here is my gift guide for her.  I am hoping to publish a few more, maybe for the hostess or for him, so stay tuned.  In the meantime, this can give my husband a wealth of ideas!  Worth a try, right??

OB-Gift Guide for Her

How are you doing on your holiday shopping?  Any special gifts on your list?  I am usually much more organized and on top of things, so this year I may be down to the wire!!
