Our 2017 Spring Home Tour

Hello friends both old and new!  If you are joining me from Simple Stylings – Welcome!  Summer’s home was amazing.  I love her modern, relaxed style.

Marty at A Stroll Thru Life has done it again and has a team of 30 bloggers ready to show you their homes decked out for spring.  It might still be a bit cold outside, but get ready for some major spring inspiration.

So, let’s begin the tour.  As you walk in our entry, you are greeted by our beloved bunny Floppy who only makes an appearance in our home this time of year.

Fresh flowers from the farmer’s market make it feel like the perfect spring day!

Moving into our living room, I  added a few decor elements to brighten the room up for spring.

A rose colored tassel throw from Homegoods and some pink graphic pillows do the trick!  I also also added some crystal objects I found a Homegoods.  I have been collecting obelisks for a while and this small one is just right for the coffee table.

Also, if anyone out there is a fellow Gamma Phi Beta, my flower arrangement is in honor of you. Pink carnations are their designated flower, in case you were wondering.  In addition to being full and lush and a nice pop of color, these flowers last FOREVER!

Moving on into our dining room which is decked out for a spring brunch.

The mini tulip wreaths were a Marshall’s find and they are the perfect size to add to the back of a chair.

Also, one frequent question I get here on the blog is where the wallpaper in this room is from.  It is called Denim Blue Tinted and is from Walls Republic. I love this wallpaper and it makes this room one of my favorites in the house.

Next up is my daughter’s room.  I don’t typically do much seasonal decorating in the kids’ rooms, but this year, I added a fun print and vases from the Oh Joy line for Target.

I found the print at Homegoods and just had to get it.  Does it look familiar? It is very similar to a photo I took several years ago for a spring home tour.

Finally, I moved my blue and white vase collection out into the entry way for a nice fresh pop of color.  Isn’t it fun to move things around and see how they look in a different space? The daffodils, which are abundant right now in our grocery stores, compliment the blue and white.

I also added some coral pieces this year to my blue and white jars.  For some reason, I love the combination!

I hope you enjoyed my tour.  I am in the process of making over my bedroom, which will be revealed in the weeks ahead.  So, if you would like to follow along, you can follow me on Pinterest here and Instagram here.  If you would like to follow along with the progress of the rest of our home, consider subscribing to email updates which you can do here.

Up next is Jennifer from Dimples and Tangles.  I have been following her blog for years and she has such an eye for color and mixing pattern.  And she is an amazing thrifter and DIY’er to boot!

Our Holiday Home with Personal Creations

Hi friends!!  I have one more sneak peek of our holiday home.  We added some personal touches with some photo gifts.  I love the modern look of lucite, so these acrylic photo blocks were the perfect choice to display the holiday photos we had taken of our family.  Having two young girls, giving photo gifts at Christmas are all the rage. Personal Creations has an amazing selection of unique photo gifts.  It is amazing to me what you can put a photo image on these days!

I love the way it is so simple, chic and modern.  It blends into our holiday decor seamlessly.

Our 2016 Holiday Home Tour

Hi everyone!!  I have teamed up once again with the fabulous Marty at A Stroll Thru Life and many other talented bloggers to show you our holiday homes decked out in holiday cheer.  There is so much talent and so many different design styles, these tours are chock full of inspiration.  A huge thank you to Marty for putting this all together.

If you are coming over from Pam at Simple Details– Welcome!  I just love Pam’s chic style and eye for detail, and man can that girl spy a Craigslist find!  If you are new here, I’m Jennifer – a Human Resources consultant by day and a design enthusiast and blogger in the wee hours of the night! Our family recently purchased our dream home that we rented for 3 years, so are so excited to fix it up and make it our own one room at a time. Bye bye beige walls and hello color!

So, without further ado, welcome to our home.  Get yourself a hot chocolate and come on in!

I thought it would be fitting to start with the entry to our home.  This is the only place where you will find traditional holiday green and red.  Here, Santa is in his sleigh full of gifts for good girls and boys! I embellished it by adding garland, a poinsettia and some birch accents.

holiday-home-tour-2016-14

holiday-home-tour-2016-15

As you walk into our home we have a small entry table and a long hallway.  This hallway was recently painted and declutterd and we added sconces.  The runners are from Home Decorator’s Collection and they look vintage and a great price.  I get compliments on them all the time.

holiday-home-tour-2016-7

holiday-home-tour-2016-8

Our tree is very similar to last year’s with a few additional ornaments.  I have collected jewel-toned ornaments forever, so while it is tempting to want to go with more traditional colors, it would be expensive to start over.  Maybe one of these years!

holiday-home-tour-2016-2

holiday-home-tour-2016-5

Our jewel-toned tree blends great with our new navy sofa and walls in the hallway.

holiday-home-tour-2016-28

I thought I would give our gold faux bamboo mirror its own bling with a magnolia leaf wreath with a few of the leaves painted gold.

holiday-home-tour-2016-27

I added some white bottle brush trees from Target to my obelisk collection and voila- instant Christmas decor.

holiday-home-tour-2016-26

holiday-home-tour-2016-23

One thing I did this year was to decorate my daughter’s rooms for the holidays.  I just did a few embellishments based on the colors already in their rooms.  This is my older daughter’s room and I added to already bright decor with pinks and greens.  The wreaths are Smith and Hawkin from Target.

Pink Christmas Home Tour 5

I used simple craft store tassels and faux gems to dress up the gift packages.

My younger daughter’s room is much more neutral, so I went with winter white, grey and pink.  I found the fun “Let it Snow” banner on clearance at Homegoods last year after Christmas.

These are a few of the Eiffel Tower ornaments I have collected over the years.

holiday-home-tour-2016-25

This is the first year I have decorated our breakfast nook.  With the new wallpaper, I thought that blue nd white colors would be fitting and I threw in some very pale pink with ribbon and Amaryllis flowers.

Fall Home Tour 2016

Hi everyone!  I have teamed up once again with the fabulous Marty at A Stroll Thru Life and many other talented bloggers to show you our fall homes.  There is so much talent and so many different design styles, these tours are chock full of inspiration. I have to admit that I don’t decorate our home a ton for fall.  I am not a huge fan of the typical fall colors.  Going into a craft store in fall is enough to make me pass out with all the orange, yellow and brown!   Coupled with the fact that it is still 90 degrees where I live, this tour will be filled with small touches that make our home feel cozy this time of year.

fall-home-tour-2

If you are coming over from Life On Virginia Street– Welcome!  I just love Sarah’s style and her clean and neutral decorating.

Welcome to our home.  Get yourself a pumpkin spice latte and come on in!

We recently painted our main living room this color blue.  The walls were DARK brown before, so I am loving the lighter look.  The gold mirror was a Craigslist score.  Had to travel about an hour to pick it up, but sooo worth it!

fall-home-tour-2016-7

As I said, I don’t do typical fall colors, but I do love gold.  Hence the gold mirror and candle pot.

fall-home-tour-2016-18

One of the few fall touches I have added are new pillows in a blush and rose color and a plaid throw.   fall-home-tour-2016-6

fall-home-tour-2016-5

I also like to decorate our fireplace with baskets of wood for fall.  If you are going to copy a similar look, I recommend going with birch logs (the beauty queen of wood!)

fall-home-tour-2016

I added these small green mums to my floral arrangement.  While I am not a fan of typical mums, these smaller green ones are compact and look more modern and fresh.

fall-home-tour-2016-15

Fall is a great time to bring in your more natural elements.  I brought out this trinket box made of natural stone.

fall-home-tour-2016-17

I recently moved some furniture around and my collection of obelisks.  Here is where they currently reside.  I actually have two more obelisks I added to my collection since these photos were taken.  Homegoods has had some recently for amazing prices!!

fall-home-tour-2016-1

fall-home-tour-2016-19

I hosted a small event earlier this month and I created a table runner made entirely of eucalyptus branches.  It was beautiful and even cascaded over the sides of the table.  I added in some cream roses for more interest.

fall-home-tour-2016-4

We recently painted our dining room a deep purple, almost eggplant color.  I added a purple orchid and candles to compliment it.  I think deep purple or amethyst is a lovely alternative color for fall.

Classic sunflowers adorn our breakfast nook.  I like the way it pairs with the blue and white wallpaper.

fall-home-tour-2016-9

What tour would be complete without a glimpse of the bar cart? I added some simple hand towels in a beautiful persimmon color from World Market to give a touch of fall.

Up next is Kristin from Bliss at Home.  I have followed her blog for years and she is an amazing designer, stylist and photographer.  She is kind of my blogging idol!  You must go see what she has in store.

5 Ideas for Bringing Indoor Furniture Outdoors

Happy Monday friends!  Ugh it has been one of those weeks.  For no particular reason, I feel extremely behind on life, work, everything.  I think it was Easter that through me off.  We were gone all day at events and I woke up on Monday feeling like I needed an extra day.  Can anyone else relate?

Well, I am gearing up to tackle our yard and I was thinking back to my Patio Style Challenge I did last year for the Home Depot.  I realized just how much indoor furniture I pulled to use in my outdoor space. There are all kinds of tips and tricks for making indoor furniture work outside. After all, the best outdoor spaces are the ones that feel like an outdoor living room or an extension of the interior.  Here are my top 5 indoor pieces that can be incorporated outside.

Jennifer Lippi Patio Style Challenge 9

Number 1:  Indoor/Outdoor Rugs

Their versatility is in the name itself.  These hard-working rugs can work indoors or out.  Nothing makes a patio feel more like an extension of a home than a rug.  They anchor the space and help with furniture placement.

Gone are the days of only a few patterns and colors.  If you can dream it up, they probably have an outdoor rug in that color or pattern.  Also there are quite a few ways to spruce up an affordable yet plain outdoor rug from a big box store by painting it with a stencil.  Type in DIY Outdoor Rug into Pinterest and you will have ideas for days!!

Frontgate

Patio 9

Number 2:  Garden Stools

These Asian ceramic beauties are totally weather-proof and work as beautifully outdoors as indoors.  I have several garden stools I routinely swap between the indoors and outdoors.  They can provide extra seating and can serve as a side table as well.  Just hose them down when you are ready to bring them inside.

Patio 2

These garden stools sold at the Home Depot are resin and made for outdoor use.  They are very affordable and can be painted any color you like.  I chose a Chartreuse!

Jennifer Lippi Patio Style Challenge 13

Number 3: Outdoor Pillows

Nothing finishes off an outdoor space more than outdoor pillows.  They are an affordable way to switch things up every few years.  In fact, my pillow hoarding habit has grown to include outdoor pillows!

You can even get them with all kinds of flair such as trim and tassels at online retailers such as Frontgate.

Patio 7

Frontgate

Have a fabric you love and want to use it outdoors?  Rustoleum’s Never Wet to the rescue.  It is a waterproofing treatment that can be used on fabric to make it water and fade resistant.

Patio 8

Number 4: Outdoor Curtains

Outdoor curtains are definitely a go-to for me to give my outdoor space that “living room” feel. They add privacy and can double as a decorative focal point.  You can use curtain tie-backs to give them that finished look.  You can also DIY them on the cheap using drop clothes and  finish them off with a painted border or Duct tape on the border.

Patio 6

Patio 5

Number 5: Mirrors

Mirrors reflect light and can be a great focal point for outdoor decor.  They just scream “secret garden” to me! Mirrors can also be sealed and weather-proofed in order to protect them from the elements.

Decorating Delirium Home Tour Patio

If you have a covered patio, your options are endless.  You can bring in a light fixture, lamps, console tables, art work and more.  About 80 percent of the furniture on my patio below is from inside.

Do you ever incorporate indoor items into your outdoor space?  Any tips on prepping them for the elements?

Our Spring Home Tour 2016

Hi everyone!  If you are joining me from 21 Rosemary Lane -Welcome!  I have to give so much credit to the warm and talented Marty at A Stroll Thru Life for putting this tour together.  She is just the sweetest.

If you a new here, I am Jennifer and I live in Northern California with my husband and high school sweetheart and our two girls!  I am obsessed with design and decorating and am always trying to get the look for less.  Much to my husbands dismay, I am always rearranging and changing our home (sometimes just to incorporate my latest Craigslist finds!)  We purchased our dream “fixer-upper” home last fall and we are in the process of renovating it room by room.  Our new home, now called the “Money Pit,” was built in the 1920’s, so it has that old home charm and many shall I say, “quirks.”  We are in the process of paining, wallpapering and doing electrical work.  So, let’s just say many of the photos will be close up of vignettes to avoid having to show you dust and drywall!

Let’s start with our entryway, shall we?  I simply added some of my favorite blue and white jars and a plant to greet guests with a touch of Spring.

Chinoiserie Blue and White 2

Chinoiserie Blue and White

I have been in a mad rush to get our table ready to go for Easter this year.  You are getting the first sneak peek. I went with a green and pink color scheme this year.

Spring Home Tour 6

The moss chargers are from World Market and they are so beautiful, but I will warn you that they are soo messy.  I guess that is what you get when you get the real deal and not faux.

Spring Home Tour 2

I found the egg cups below at a thrift store for a few bucks and the butterfly accent plates are from Homegoods.

Spring Home tour 3

The ombre candles are also from World Market and they come in a bunch of fun Spring hues like green and yellow as well as pink

Spring Home Tour 4

Instead of my standard round ball vase, I opted to place my flowers in a soup tureen I found at a thrift store  The flowers lay beautifully inside of it.  I highly urge you to search your home for unique vessels to use as vases.  I used a combination of spray roses, tulips and freesia.

Spring Home Tour 5

Sping Home Tour 1

Other than adding florals and a few other accents, we don’t really bring in much Spring decor. One exception is our beloved bunny Floppy who makes an appearance each Easter.

Decorating Delirium Spring Home Tour Glamour 2

You can see how much my little Audrey loves him.

Spring Home Tour 7

My rain boots double as a make-shift vase.  Just use a tall slender vase inside to ensure your boots stay dry!  I opted for a mixture of tulips and calla lilies and I like the texture the combination adds.

Spring Home Tour 8

Spring Home Tour 9

Speaking of unique vessels, I was going through my cupboards and found this old copper colander and a light bulb went off.  I could use it as a vase.

Spring Home Tour 15

What tour would be complete without a glimpse of the bar cart?  I added pops of green and pink to brighten it up.

Bar Cart 1

Bar Cart 3

Bar Cart 7

I tried my hand at some outside the “carton” Easter egg ideas this year.  For both of the eggs below, I used my favorite paper napkins and some Mod Podge to create totally unique eggs.  You can find tons of other unique Easter egg decorating ideas here.

Spring Home Tour 16

This next spot is near and dear to my heart.  When we moved into the “Money Pit,” we had to sell our first home.  It was a bitter-sweet moment as it was the place where we brought our girls home from the hospital and lived as newlyweds.  We were however able to take one of our favorite statues/planters who we affectionately call Merle with us to our new home.

Spring Home Tour 10

Finally, there is no way I could show you are outdoor space right now.  It needs some “Spring cleaning” to say the least.  Here it is last year after a Spring revival.

10 Unique Easter Egg Decorating Ideas

With the advent of Pinterest, long gone are the days of the Paas Easter Egg dying kit in my house. Can anyone else relate?  Easter egg decorating is actually a craft that I feel comfortable tackling. Some of the ideas below were done by yours truly, so if I can do it, anyone can.  This year, why don’t you think outside the “carton” and try something new!

Can you believe that the eggs below are colored using whipped cream???  That is what gives them their dreamy watercolor look.  Click on the source below for the full tutorial!

Easter Egg 4

Source

These ombre dyed eggs by yours truly could not be simpler.  You simply increase the level of dye exponentially.  I opted for blue, but you could use the hue of your choice. You can read the full tutorial here.

Easter Eggs 8

These botanical eggs look too good to be true and they are!  The secret?? Temporary tattoos.  No wonder the artwork looks like perfection!

Easter Egg 7

Source

Waste not want not.  These unique eggs use broken shells to create a mosaic effect.  How cool it that??

Easter Egg 5

Source

I created these decoupage eggs on a whim.  All you need is paper napkins of your choice and Mod Podge. Paper napkins come in such a variety of patterns and colors, the possibilities are endless.  You can read the full tutorial here.

Easter Egg 6

These DIY marbled eggs actually use nail polish to achieve this unique look.  I adore the on-trend indigo color as well. For a full tutorial click on the source below.

Easter Egg 2

Source Photos by Sara Albers

Would you believe me if I told you that these eggs were dyed using Kool-Aid?  I love the abstract lines and if you tell your kids that Kool-Aid is involved, they might just want to try something different this year.

Easter Eggs 9

Source

Gold is so on trend right now, why not incorporate it into your Easter theme.  These gold foil eggs are gorgeous with their bold colors and gold highlights.

Easter Egg 1

Source

I love the idea of cameo eggs.  These silhouette based eggs look a little daunting, however the precise lines can be created by using contact paper.  Why not have your little cuties on your eggs this year?

Eggs 2

Source

These moss-covered eggs are simple but so adorable.  You could customize them any way you like.  I have so much moss lying around my house from various craft projects,  I could do soo many of these!

Easter Egg 3

Source

All of these ideas sound totally doable, right?  I am tempted to try more than one.  Well, I guess we will see how much dye, whipped cream, or Kool-Aid gets spilled in the process!

Do you have a favorite method for dying Easter eggs?  Do tell.  I would love to hear your tips and tricks.

8 Unique Spring Floral Arrangements

Hi everyone!  I don’t know about you but I have a serious case of Spring Fever!!  I am participating in a Spring Home Tour in a few weeks and I have been getting my home ready, including adding lots of fresh flowers to my space.  I perused around Pinterest and found these amazing and unique floral arrangements.  Most of them add unique items to the arrangement or are placed in a unique vessel.

This arrangement layers natural element upon natural element by nestling the flowers into a cabbage. So clever!

Spring Floral Arrangment 3

I love the unusual vase and free-form look of these tulips and branches.

I like the placement of this huge bunch of tulips in a simple wire-basket. Very Parisian flower market!

The addition of colored eggs to this arrangement takes it from ho-hum grocery store flower arrangement to a show- stopper.

This arrangement by yours truly, uses the rain boots as a statement piece.  In order to preserve the boots, I simply placed tall narrow vases inside the boots.  This arrangement has been one of my most popular pins on Pinterest and in fact, Hunter has even pinned it to their boards!

I love how the use of fresh lemons helps to mirror the sunny yellow of the ranunculus.  You could do this with any type of fruit.  Oranges, limes, kumquats.  The possibilities are endless!
