Decorating with Birch Logs

Hi Friends!  This time of year, I am all about creating a simple, cozy home.  It must be the weather, but I can’t wait to get home at night and cozy up by the fire.

While they have been popular for a while, I just love the way natural birch logs look in a fireplace or used as part of holiday decor.  They are classic, neutral and pair well with any style.

I love they way they bring brightness to a dark space, like a fireplace.

Via Lolori Rugs

Via Confetti and Stripes

They are an excellent choice when creating holiday vignettes.

Via Setting for Four

I have been known to scavenge my neighborhood for birch branches after a storm.  So obviously, I was so pleased when HedgeScapes sent me some perfectly cut birch logs to review.

I used them on my holiday porch here.  I have a special place in my heart for my “scavenged” birch branches, but the logs from HedgeScapes were perfectly cut and the exact same size.  The made for a much more polished display.

Hedgescapes has a variety of faux hedges and plants, including my favorite snake plants and fiddle leaf figs.

What do you think?  Have you ever used birch logs in your decor or brought a piece of nature inside to enjoy.

Until next time. . .

Our Holiday Home with Personal Creations

Hi friends!!  I have one more sneak peek of our holiday home.  We added some personal touches with some photo gifts.  I love the modern look of lucite, so these acrylic photo blocks were the perfect choice to display the holiday photos we had taken of our family.  Having two young girls, giving photo gifts at Christmas are all the rage. Personal Creations has an amazing selection of unique photo gifts.  It is amazing to me what you can put a photo image on these days!

A Furniture Makeover Using Oil-Based Paint from Ipaint!

Hi friends!!  I am so excited to share my latest furniture makeover with you.  There is nothing like a good furniture makeover when you are trying to get the look for less, right?

So, I have been wanting to makeover this Chinese Chippendale table for ages.  It has been sitting in my garage collecting dust.  My husband just loves that 🙂  It was purchased for a steal from the amazing Shavonda at SG Style, my local blogging buddy.  It had good bones, but the color was blah and it needed a serious paint job!  My procrastination ended when I was approached by Ipaint to try out one of their amazing paint products.  I leaped at the chance.

Here is the before:

iPaint has been manufacturing high quality paint and coatings for over 55 years.  They stock the largest selection of quality coatings in any size, in any shine, in any color,  at the best price available, with free delivery and a written -warranty!   They have unique paint such as swimming Pool Paint, Boat Paint, Epoxy Paint, Concrete Coatings, and Garage Paint Deck Paint.  Huge businesses such as Disneyland and Google use their paint.  How cool is that?

I chose their Blue Water Marine Paint Mega Gloss Alkyd Enamel.   It is an amazing oil-based paint that is usually made for painting boats.  So, it is super strong and durable and UV resistant.

I could not be more pleased with the results.  The paint has depth, is durable, and is as shiny as glass.  I have always loved the look of oil-based paint, but it is near impossible to find here in California anymore.  I cannot say enough about how bright and shiny this paint looks.  My piece looks totally transformed!  The pictures don’t do it justice.  It is more beautiful, with a glass-like finish in person.

I have to admit that painting with oil-based paint was everything I had heard it would be.  I sanded and primed my piece, but still had to apply three coats of the paint.  Every brush stroke will show if you are not careful, and clean up is a serious pain.  I had to use paint thinner to clean my paint brush (and my hands) every time!  It definitely requires patience.

However, it was totally worth it.  You simply can’t get these results with a water-based high gloss paint.  Here are the after photos.

The pictures don’t do it justice.  It is more beautiful, with a glass-like finish in person.

I can’t wait to use this paint again.  I think I may use it on my daughter’s desk because it is so durable.  Head on over to Ipaint to find the paint for your next project.

Until next time  . . .

Uncommon Goods: A Source for Unique Gifts and Home Decor

Happy almost Friday everyone!  I am so looking forward to a long 3-day weekend.  I have about a dozen DIY projects I am hoping to tackle.  I may need to reset my expectations!!  But today I wanted to share with you an amazing source for unique gifts and home decor.

I am always on the look out for unique gift ideas.  I, like many of you, have people on my list who are very difficult to buy for.  I am sure you can relate.  That is why I am so excited about the selections from Uncommon Goods.  They offer unique gifts for men, women, children and the home.  If you have never heard of them, Uncommon Goods was founded in 1999 and features items, many of which are hand-made from artists and designers.  You can even read details about the artist behind each gift!  Most of their products are created right here in the USA and about 1/3 of their collection incorporates recycled or upcycled materials.  How cool is that?

Here are a few of my picks from the Uncommon Goods website for gifts and home decor:

OB-Uncommon Goods 1. Basket/ 2. Coasters/ 3. Pillow/ 4. Platter/ 5. Decanter/ 6. Tray

The Lidded Hamper Basket is so cheery and bold that I truly think I wouldn’t mind doing laundry if I used this.   Well, at least it would make it more fun.  This eclectic basket is hand-woven out of cattails!

You might be noticing a trend with my choices!  I love geodes and natural stones, such as agate. This has been  a trend for a while now, and these Agate Coasters are feeding my obsession. Check out all the home and decor items here.

This bold black and white pillow actually contains Hindi Script, hence the name of the pillow.  Black and white is such a classic combination that allows you to layer colors and textures and this pillow is no exception.

This Rose Quartz Platter almost takes my breath away.  The natural beauty of the rose quartz with the luxe glimmer of the glittering silver makes quite a combo.  You will have a conversation-starter no matter what you serve at your next fete!  My birthday is coming up and this is definitely on my wish list.  Since my husband reads the blog, he sometimes takes a hint!  See more gift ideas for women here to help make the woman in your life feel truly special!

Decanters!  When I got married I got a few of these and they still adorn our bar.  This personalized “Yours, Mine, and Ours” Decanter Set melts my heart.  It would make such a lovely, custom wedding gift that a couple would use for a lifetime.  It would also make a very special anniversary gift.  See more gifts here to help make your anniversary extra special!

Finally, this Amethyst Serving Platter just oozes modern sophistication.  I am such a fan of the purple and lavender hues.  I have a few small pieces of it in my home and it definitely adds a hint of glamour to my space.  Sure to be a showpiece at your next social gathering.

And those are just the home decor items!!  If you are looking for something whimsical for the kids (or the child in you), they also had these fun treat pillows.

Uncommon Goods 10

I also love this “keeping up with the Joneses” door mat.  Pretty on point, right?  Their selection of fun and whimsical gifts is unending.

Uncommon Goods 5

I hope you have enjoyed my favorites from Uncommon Goods.  I am really loving this company and their products. They range from unique and eclectic to traditional and elegant.  The best part is that they are a socially responsible company who does business responsibility to impact the world in a positive way.  It is a dream for designer and consumers alike!  If you have a difficult person to buy for on your list, head on over to Uncommon Goods to see their totally unique home decor offerings.

This is a sponsored post written by me for Uncommon Goods.  I truly love each product and these opinions are 100% my own.

Have a wonderful 3-day weekend everyone!

Our New Delta In2ition Showerhead + a Giveaway!!

Hi friends and Happy Friday!  I don’t know about you, but I am just now feeling recovered from the 4th of July!

As some of you may know, we recently remodeled our master bathroom, and went with a black, white and brass theme.

Summer Home Tour 8

All of the fixtures were from the Delta Trinsic line, so I was thrilled when Delta wanted to partner with me to upgrade the shower head in our other bathroom.  They sent me the amazing Delta In2ition to try out.  It is exclusive to the Home Depot and you can find it here.

IMG_0746

I love the traditional look of our guest bath, but the shower head left much to be desired.

IMG_0748

How wimpy and sad does this little shower head look?

IMG_0750

I cannot say enough about how easy the installation of this shower head was.  I mean, like two minutes. I am embarrassed to say that I had my Dad come over in case I needed help, and I was able to do it myself really fast. Voila!  For a two-in-one shower head, the installation was effortless.

IMG_0758

The shower head has a detachable handheld head.  I have to say that after taking a shower using the hand shower mechanism, I am hooked.  Calgon take me away! What a luxury and my kids love it too.   The flow I used was a medium spray, but it also offers three heavier spray patterns, including a thumping massage—and with that long hose, it’s easy to reach down to massage sore feet or legs.  The hand shower—like most hand showers—also features a temporary-shutoff button, a necessity when rinsing off kids or pets.

My hair has never looked so good.  Does anyone remember that Seinfeld episode where their building replaced all the shower head with low-flow heads and everyone had terrible hair?  In addition to benefitting my hair, this shower head is water-efficient as well.  By controlling the speed, movement and droplet size of the water, this showerhead creates the feeling of more water while actually using less.

Want to try one out for yourself?  Delta has generously offered to provide a Delta In2ition showerhead to one lucky reader!  This baby is valued at around $100.  All you have to do is follow the Rafflecopter instructions below.  Good Luck!

Hi friends and Happy Monday!!  If you know me well, you know that I hoard accessories and jewelry is no exception.  I was recently contacted by Amorium Jewelry in New York. They make silver jewelry by hand in elegant and modern designs.  Let me tell you, if you love to layer and coordinate pieces of jewelry, Amorium is for you!  They sent me their Ires ring in rose gold to try out.

The ring is so beautiful.  Timeless and modern at the same time.  It also comes in silver and gold, but the rose gold is so on trend!

And the Winner Is . . .

Hi Friends! I am happy to announce that the winner of the 8×10 rug pad from RugpadUSA is Abby Barge!  Abby you have been sent an e-mail with instructions for how to collect your prize!

Rugpad USA Premium Log

Stay tuned this week, as I plan to have a few fun posts coming your way.  I have been really inconsistent with my posts lately and I am sorry.  My part-time job started to become more like a full-time job and I am also studying to take a national standardized exam at the end of the month. Hence, blogging time has been limited.  Do you ever have weeks where you seriously don’t think you can have another thing piled on your plate?

Things should slow down for me a bit at the end of the month and I hope to get back to blogging more regularly and tackling some of those DIY projects I have on my list!

An Ode To The Rug Pad: A RugpadUSA Rug Pad Review

You keep the rug from slip sliding away. But you hide under beautiful rugs all day. You add to the plush feel underfoot. Yet no one gives you a second look. No one appreciates the hard work you do. That is why I wrote this poem for you. I promise that my product reviewing skills are better than my poetry!  In all seriousness, I was beyond thrilled when RugpadUSA offered to send me an amazing environmentally safe rug pad to try out.  I had heard great things about RugpadUSA’s rug pads from other bloggers.  I selected the Eco-Solid rug pad in a 5×7.   I selected the Eco-Solid rug because I have small kids and a dog who are often playing on the rug and I wanted it to be environmentally friendly. The area rug in my dinning room had a really old rug pad that was just not staying put any longer, so I wanted to try the new rug pad in this room.  Here is the rug that I needed to stay put! IMG_7441 First, when the rug pad arrived, I noticed it was practically odor free and did not have that chemical smell that some rug pads have.  So far, I am very pleased with my RugpadUSA Eco-Solid rug pad.  The rug pad is nice and thick and adds an added plushness to the carpet.  My dinning room is a high traffic area and the rug has stayed put.  Hopefully, with time, it will hold strong. IMG_7413 IMG_7447 I would highly recommend ordering your next rug pad from RugpadUSA.  You can shop by rug type, size, or material type.  You can even have a custom rug pad made!  They also sell outdoor rug pads.  It is your one stop shop for all your rug pad needs and has excellent prices.  We are very happy with our new rug pad.  Now all I need is a new rug! This is a product review.  The rug pad was provided by RugpadUSA, but all opinions expressed are 100% my own.
