Plans for the Master Bedroom

Hi Friends!

I wrote here earlier this month about updating our master bedroom this year as one of my house goals for 2017.  I am glad to report that plans are actually in the works.  We have some behind the scenes work do to such as ordering new doors and moving the electrical, but I have been busy dreaming up the specifics of the space.

On top of it, I found this beauty on Craigslist for only $60. Cue happy dance!!  It will be the new light fixture for the space.  All it needs is a fresh coat of paint and it will definitely add interest and whimsy to my space.  Right now we have an awful ceiling fan, so anything is an improvement!

Here is my tentative plan for the space.

For the walls, I have chosen the color Pink Ground by Farrow and Ball.  It is truly the faintest shade of blush.  It is like the color of a ballet slipper.  I think it will pair well with the navy.  The bedding is from Ballard Designs.  I wanted something simple and classic, where I can switch it up by swapping out accent pillows.  I was also offered to try out one of the Unique Rugs Store’s vintage Persian rugs!!  I will let you know all the deets once it has arrived.

For our new bed, I am thinking something like this:

We are FINALLY upgrading to a King.  With two kids and a dog, our queen bed is busting at the seams.  I often find myself moved into my 5 year old’s bed in the middle of the night.  Can anyone else relate?

What do you think?  Do you like it?  If anyone has suggestions for nightstands that are affordable and on the smaller side, please let me know.  Now that we have a King bed, I have to downsize our nightstands.

I can’t wait to see it all come together!

One Room Challenge 2016

Hi everyone!  I am so excited to announce that I am going to be participating in Linda at Calling It Home’s famous One Room Challenge (“ORC”) as a Guest Participant.

ORC-LP-250x183

If you are not familiar with ORC, it is where 20 designers are challenged to transform a room and document their process every week.  Anyone can take the challenge and link up their progress every week.  This year is even better as they are partnering with House Beautiful as a media partner.  It doesn’t get any better than that!

ORC photo

If you are new here, you might not know that I have been talking about decorating my daughter’s big girl room for ages now.  I am using the ORC to light a fire under me to actually get something done.  I have followed along for years and always wanted to participate, so this is the year!

Here is the before photo (giant Elsa doll and all!)  I thought I would keep it real and the worse the before photo the better the after, right?  Obviously, storage is going to be a major component of this space.

Here room gets terrible light and our home is very old so there is no overhead lighting, so new lighting fixtures are in order.  The only thing that is really staying is the bed!

Here is what I am dreaming up for this space.  The color scheme is going to be grey and pale pink.

OB-Audrey's Room

I plan to go with classic bedding, pale pink silk drapes and DIY faux fur stools.  There is so much to be done, but having to show my progress each week will keep me accountable!  Here is my project timeline:

Week 1: Paint

Week 2: Lighting

Week 3: DIY Stools and framed wallpaper.

Week 4: Drapes

Week 5:  Accessories and bedding.

I hope you follow along with me as I document my progress.  I will update you each Thursday, so mark you calendars!  I also hope you follow the amazing designers who are the official challengers.  Head on over to Calling it Home to follow along.

Until next week!

The Story of a Woman Cave

Hi friends!  Yes, I know these days it is all about the man cave, but us women deserve a space all our own too.  When I was approached by Chairish, the online sale site for used and vintage furniture and decor to design my own “woman cave” out of some of their products, I jumped at the chance.

Sites like Chairish help you to achieve a collected and layered look to your home.  I know it is tempting sometimes to go out and buy and entire room from a catalog, but I wouldn’t have the same personal feel if you collected beautiful things you love over time.  I have shopped with Chairish several times and been so pleased.  You can search by area, so that makes it even easier.  For my Sacramento readers, there is a section for Sacramento sales.  It is like Craigslist for the design lover!

Now onto my design.  I had several barstool options to use as my starting point for the design. When I found a set of silver faux bamboo stools, they had me at “hello.”  If you have been reading the blog for a while, you know I have a special place in my heart for Chinoiserie.  So, without further ado, here is my design for my ideal woman cave.

Barstools / Bar Cart / Paintings / Rug / Ice Bucket / Highball Glasses

What woman cave would be complete without a bar cart?  And with all the traditional Chinoserie, the modern abstract art is a refreshing juxtaposition.  Add some vintage barware into the mix and I am good to go!

Now this is a space where I could sit back and relax and have a glass of wine or a martini!  If you could dream up your ideal “woman cave” what would it look like?  Would a bar be your spot, or a cozy bedroom with all the luxuries?

Until next time.

Maker Mood Board Contest

Happy Monday everyone!  I am in the process of helping a friend put together a guest room.  I love using mood boards, as they help pull everything together and help people visualize the end result.  It was perfect timing as was recently nominated by Small Town Rambler to participate in the Maker Mood Board Contest with Porch.com and ATGStores.com.  Porch and ATGStores.com have teamed up to offer bloggers a chance to enter the contest by creating a mood board with a collection of their photos and products as a way to get inspired.

The idea behind the mood board was to create a sophisticated guest room using a combination of my friends existing decor, new products and a few DIY ideas.  Browsing through the items at ATGStore.com was a dream come true.  There are so many amazing products, I had a hard time choosing!  I also got some inspiration from some of my blogging buddies, who are featured in the board as well.  The room will involve some DIY striped walls and a bedroom fireplace.  How amazing does that sound??  Here is what we came up with.

Decorating with Vintage Rugs from Chairish

Happy Friday loves!  I was approached by designer site Chairish and challenged to create a room using one of their vintage rugs as the centerpiece.  Challenge accepted!

If you have never heard of Chairish, you can read about them here, as I did an entire post about how much I love the site.  In a nutshell, it is an online consignment marketplace for the design obsessed.  It is basically a Craigslist or Ebay with only the good stuff!!  Amazing, right?

I chose a gorgeous Missoni rug with lots of color as my centerpiece.  You can see sources for all of the products used at the end of the post!

Chairish Design Board (2) Tulip Table / Chandelier / Fiddle Leaf Fig / Ghost Chair

What do you think?  I love it because it has a nice balance of traditional and modern, and has just the right pop of color!

If you have never checked out Chairish, I highly recommend it.  You can find some amazing deals on unique designer decor!

Have an amazing weekend!  I will be working on hard on my patio!!

Dorm Style

It is about that time when I see college kids heading back to college.  My little girls are young, but I am sure the day they leave the nest will come faster than I think!  However, I do smile when I think about the prospect of another room to decorate 🙂 This is for those of you who have college kids heading back to school or heck for any adult who likes “dorm style.”

Living Room Design Board

I have a friend who asked me to put some design ideas together for her living room.  Her existing furniture was a great starting point.  She had a modern white sectional, a leather ottoman coffee table and a white modular media stand.  She said that she wanted more color in the room and said her version of color always ended up including black and white.

Here are some ideas we came up with.

It was fun to play decorator for someone else!!

Incorporating color can be daunting for some people.  It feels like such a big choice and committment.  Stay tuned, as I plan to do a series about decorating with certain color schemes.

How about you?  Do you shy away from color, like just a “pop” of color, or mix and match all over the place?
