Happy Friday! I can’t wait for the weekend as it has been a grueling week over at our house with everyone being sick.
I am so excited reveal to you my campaign dresser makeover. You may recall the dresser I posted about here that I found on Craigslist. It was only $50 bucks and you can see why below.
Here is the before:
It needed lots of TLC.
I removed and polished the hardware. A coat of primer and two coats of paint later I had this.
I was trying to knock-off Pottery Barn’s Gemma dresser, which costs about $1,350 not including tax and hefty shipping costs.
Not bad for $50 and the cost of paint, right? Bam! Take that Pottery Barn!!
Stay tuned as I plan to write a post all about restoring campaign furniture, including tips for making the hardware “shine bright like a diamond!”

Have a lovely weekend!

Looks amazing!! I’m always blown away by the transformation of paint! Can’t wait to hear how you did it 🙂
Thanks Gabi! I am really pleased with how it turned out. Sometimes it is worth it to wait until you find that perfect piece! xoxo
I’m in love!!! Campaign dressers make my heart happy! And I love love your bamboo mirror!!
I am sooo pleased with how it turned out. It was a ton of work, but the end result makes it look like such a transformed piece of furniture. The bamboo mirror was another Craiglist find. Since you are local Katrina we will have to meet up and do some thrifting!
Wow! I love how this came out! Thanks for linking up and sharing!
Thanks Yami! I am so pleased with the way it came out. Quite a transformation for the money spent!
You did an awesome job in giving the campaign dresser a new life, Jennifer!! Love it, its stunning
Thanks so much Bharati! It is so nice to be able to breath new life into old, neglected furniture that just needs a little TLC. Thanks for stopping by!
Jennifer, what a wonderful makeover! I love campaign furniture and am hoping to score a piece some day. I’d really love to have a pair of nightstands for my sons room. Great job! Thanks for linking up with us at Best of the Nest!
Thanks so much Jennifer! I seriously stalked Craigslist for a piece of campaign furniture. I think nightstands would be a dream. I think they translate well to both a boys and a girls space! Thanks for stopping by and for hosting Best of the Nest!
LOVE this Jennifer!! You did an amazing job replicating PB!! I have one just like it, and it is so versatile, I know you’re going to be so happy with this for years to come!
Thanks Pam! They are so classic and I am so happy with my find. I was toying between white, hot pink and kelly green, but I figure I can always paint it again later!
This came out amazing, what a dreamy piece! You got such a perfect finish with the paint, did you use an oil base?
Hi Jesica! I would have loved to use an oil based paint, but unfortunately I live in California where they have banned oil-based paint. I have been tempted to smuggle it across state lines 🙂 What I did use was Benjamine Moor Advance Waterborne Alkyd paint in the highest gloss I could find. You can find a description here: http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/for-your-home/paint-products/advance-waterborne-interior-alkyd-paint#advs=0&tab=2. It is meant to have the application and finish of an oil based paint with much easier clean up! I was really pleased with the results. Thanks for stopping by!
I just purchased two of these last night. One has a book shelf on top. I would like to ask what you used in the hardware?
Hi again Teresa. I also forgot to mention that if the brass is so bad it needs replacement, you can find all sorts of replacement parts on sites like Etsy and Ebay. Good luck!
I just purchased two of these last night. One has a book shelf on top. I would like to ask what you used on the hardware? Was all of your hardware solid brass?
Hi Teresa. Thanks for stopping by! Mine did have solid brass hardware. I took it off and used Brasso to clean it. On some of the stubborn spots, I soaked it overnight. Hope this helps! xo, Jennifer
